Last but certainly not least, Reilly Wasiluk enjoys her AP Human Geography class. She feels she is “prepared for the work” that is yet to come. Reilly was “stressed out a bit” from the last test she took in her AP class, but aside from the tests she only gets stressed out when she has homework from her other classes as well as her Advanced Placement homework.…

Susan Bordo examines Western culture as it relates to the body, specifically the slender body in this chapter of her book, Unbearable Weight. Diets have been important since the Ancient Greek and Middle Ages, where the Greeks mastered their “public” selves by regulating “food intake… as a road to self-mastery” and the Christians fasted for their “inner” selves to achieve “spiritual purification and domination of the flesh” (page 185). By the nineteenth century, diet became associated with the aesthetics of the physical body and “fat, not appetite or desire, became the declared enemy” (page 185). The ideal body has no excess “bulge, fat, or flab” (page 189); this is a simply impossible standard for women to achieve due to their given biological…
Due to my uncanny similarity with the group of college students William Zinsser described in his essay “College Pressures,” his words induced within me feelings of guilt and regret. Throughout my years of schooling, there have been many occasions in which I have labored to a maximum which resulted in an almost unbearable amount of stress and panic. Oftentimes, I credited this anxiety to my teachers who assigned many projects and tests; or to the School Board that made continuous changes to the learning curriculum and expectations for “success.” At the beginning of his essay while he elaborated on his thesis, William Zinsser, master of Branford College, countered this thinking, “It is easy to look around for villains -- to blame colleges… the…
The performance art “Carry That Weight” is the thesis project of a Columbia University senior, Emma Sulkowicz. Her performance is a superb artifact because it displays colleges’ lack of protection for rape victims, the need for better laws against rape, and the detrimental effects of letting an accused walk free.…
Knowing more than the facts is essential for success on the AP Test. This exercise will help you create thematic associations within decades.…
Have you ever wondered why college students are so stressed out? Zinsser successfully answers that question through anecdotal evidence. The essay begins with notes from overwhelmed students requesting extensions from their dean Carlos, because of the exhaulting pressures they are…
The supply and demand simulation was a very helpful tool in understanding the effects of external factors on the supply and demand curves. Understanding this concept is fundamental in preparing for real life situations. I personally enjoyed the fact that the simulation was based on a real estate management company. I was able to understand and relate to the information given. There are a series of questions that will be answered and the topic of this paper will cover different concepts of micro and macroeconomics including; shifts in the supply and demand curves and its effect on the equilibrium price, quantity, and decision making. I will explain my understanding and applications of these concepts to my workplace. Finally, it will cover how the price elasticity of demand affects a consumer’s purchasing and the firm’s pricing strategy…

I love the challenge of rigorous course work and the chance to expand my knowledge. Hence, I have taken multiple advanced and AP courses. Although I do fairly well in the course work, my shortcoming occurs on the AP tests. Out of the five AP tests I have gotten, I have not received anything higher than a 2, no matter how hard I try. Similarly, my SAT lower than anticipated. This is very discouraging to receive because I believe that these test do not accurately reflect who I am as a student. It is important to receive instruction on test taking strategies that will help me succeed. I am willing to commit myself to any measure necessary to achieve the success I…
Taking three AP courses in my junior year was the best, most challenging decision I have had to make in my academic career so far. Being passionate about an advanced education, it was an easy commitment for me to make, however the workload that came along with each AP class had me stretched thin. I am extremely appreciative to the AP Readiness Program that was offered at UCLA for providing me with the resources to succeed in each of my classes.…
