Due to recent discoveries, stem cell research will have many future medical possibilities. A recent stem cell breakthrough shows that cloning human organs or body parts to treat patients with injured organs or limb deficiencies could be possible. “The cloning techniques can also be used to grow organs for patients with a failing liver or kidney.” Because the newly cloned organ will be genetically identical to the one being replaced, rather than a donated one, the chances of it being rejected will be very low. Ultimately, this opens up many possibilities of curing patients with injuries, amputations, and failing organs. Stem cell research also reveals the ability to cure diseases. “Researcher Dieter Egli said their work was inspired by the thought of being able to take stem cells from embryos and use them to treat and even cure diseases. Worn out hearts could be patched up, aged brains could be rejuvenated and diabetics could be freed from the need to take insulin, all thanks to stem cells.” Stem cell researchers believe it is possible to cure diseases by replacing old organs with newly cloned ones. This will impact future medical possibilities because newer treatments will be out there and the ability to cure diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer may be possible. Furthermore, federal funding for stem cell research has been limited although by the popularity of its breakthroughs; stem cell research may receive federal funding in the near future. This will broaden stem cell research and allow scientists a greater chance of discovering new medical possibilities in the near…

Two of the most important factors of stem cell research are tissue regeneration and treatment of diseases. Embryonic stem cell research can alter neurological diseases as well as spinal cord injuries. With the use of pluripotent stem cells, researchers can carefully observe the development of cells from fetal development to adulthood. They can pinpoint the precise location where cells begin to malfunction and diseases form. Observing the development of diseases, allows scientists to come up with cures in order to fight the spread and later development. One example of a neurological disease is Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s disease patients suffer from the destruction of cells that produce dopamine, a neurotransmitter. Using embryonic stem cells, researchers were able to formulate new dopamine-producing cells and transplant them into the body, which would relieve their symptoms (Murnaghan). Embryonic stem cells have the potential to replace damaged cells from a resulting injury, adding support to the damage myelin sheath, protecting cells at injury site and inhibiting the spread of the injury. “I truly believe that stem cell research is going to allow our children to look at al and diabetes and other major diseases the way we view polio today, which is as a preventable disease” (Susan Solomon: The promise of stem cell…

Immunohistochemically method can be done for the localization of FGF8 during neurogenesis. In the study performed by Tanaka, sections of the mouse embryos were dissected and examined. Under close observation Tanaka discovered that the neurons at the marginal zones of the developing CNS as well as the Dorsal root ganglia were immunostained for FGF8 [4]. Later Tanaka found that the expression of FGF8 in enteric intermuscular neurons, Dorsal Root ganglion (DRG’s), and paraaortic sympathetic ganglia [4]. The FGF8 immunostaining was proven by immunoabsorption testing which confirmed the expression of FGF8.…

A second example of promising new research is that ordinary skin cells are being morphed into function brain cells. This research could provide a new way to overcome diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS), cerebral palsy (CP), and other rare genetic disorders called leukodystrophies by replacing the myelinating cells that are destroyed. The scientists in charge of the research are in the process of working on a way to translate this process from the mice cells they have been experimenting on to human cells for a possible cure, or at least a treatment, for neuron disorders. The bulk of the research is being conducted in parts of the body were neuron disorders are causing myelinating cells to be destroyed. This research causes for great excitement because it could be the means to provide a very plausible and viable treatment option for this type of neuron…

Sequential growth strategy: Biocon added businesses like enzymes, biopharmaceuticals, research services and drug development that were interlinked. Consolidation of core skills: Biocon had consolidated its core skills in enzymes (known to be the building blocks of biotech), established a footprint in biopharmaceuticals (which helped generate regular cash flow) and partnered with global firms (serving as launching pads for drug development). Biocon's Integrated Business Model: Biocon, along with its subsidiaries – Syngene and Clinigene, handles the entire lifecycle of a drug; right from discovery to commercialization (it has least expertise in commercialization). o Discovery Syngene Molecular Biology Synthetic Chemistry Biocon Microbial Fermentation Biodiversity Bioprocessing o Development Clinigene Clinical Research Clinical Development Clinical Trials o Commercialization Biocon Generics, main contributor to revenue: Bulk of their revenues came from generics. A generic drug typically cost 20 per cent to 80 per cent less because the product was not burdened with legacy expenses of research, development, clinical trials and marketing. Patent of Plafactor: Biocon secured a U.S. patent for a reactor it developed, known as plafactor. The patent gave the company exclusive global rights to use and license the technology for the manufacture of drugs involving genetically engineered microorganisms in a solid-state fermenter. Diversified and Specialized: From the company’s origins making enzymes for the breweries industry, Biocon had expanded and diversified into related fields during the next two decades. Biocon specialized in four broad areas: enzymes, biopharmaceuticals, custom research and clinical research.…
