This made it hard for her to retrieve her food, water, and wound healing supplies given to her by sponsors. In the beginning Katniss had no confidence what so ever about coming out as champion or even surviving the games, but as the storyline continued more toward the end of book she seemed to become more comfortable with the idea that she could potentially die. This might be due to the fact that she had to push to stay alive for the sake of her 12 year old younger sister, but then realized that her sister would be proud of her no matter what. Surviving the Hunger Games was difficult enough, but playing the game at a such challenging arena made that task that much harder. Being at that the Capitol, also meant that she alone could not provide for her family anymore. She would have to count on friends in District 12 to help her family out. “Gale will get her the herbs she doesn’t grow herself,...He’ll also bring them game-he and I made a pact about this a year or so ago…”(35). Being the head of the household, and then being ripped away for the family had a devastating effect on Katniss’s family. Being at the capital also meant that that she was always under surveillance, and everything she did was being watched. Every part was her life was under the control of the capitol, and there wasn’t a way that Katniss could fight back. Being a Hunger Games tribute at the Capitol, meant that she had the do countless interviews and win over as many fans that she could. Pretending to be somebody that she isn’t is one obstacle that she will have a hard time…

The hunger game definitely describes the conflict between worker class and capital class in a extreme case. And that’s the frequent criticism on capitalism such that it makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Luckily, capitalism comes with democracy and the people can throw away their government if they suffer too much. I once took a philosophy class which we analyzed a lots of social model from different philosophers and discussed which is the best model. We came to the conclusion that a good social model should have a clear bottom line, and the government have the responsibility to keep all the people above that bottom line to prevent the “bottom people” suffering. In contrast to communism, this model doesn’t have a top line to prevent…

Authors and filmmakers are trying to portray the social/political issues that people from a particular country faces to everyone through their films and novels. The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) focuses on the main character Katniss and her journey to revolt against the corrupt power system of her government the capitol. The ‘Hunger Games’ is a way of controlling those in the capitols power. Comparison “All I can think is how unjust the whole thing is, the Hunger Games. Why am I hopping around like some trained dog trying to please people I hate?” communicates how Katniss feels the Capitol is corrupt and there ‘hunger games’ is a way to exert there power over those they control. Like Katnisse’s viewpoint “Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch – this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy” reveals how those oppressed by the capitols power realise that their lives are controlled by the capitol and they have no option…

She is characterzed by being a caring person who encourage ones around her to keep going no matter what. Im always there for people who ask for my help, and im also a caring person. The motivation that Katniss showed through her actions is away that I am when helping others, or in a bad situation. Not once in the movie did I see her give up on anything, even if she had gotten hurt really bad. She stuck to what she had to do or either what she was going to do in order to get things back to how they were. Even when it came to helping another team player, she didn’t see it as a threat which showed how caring she…

For Katniss, survival has become more than just hiding out and avoiding the Careers; she recognizes that truly to survive, she must play the Game to win. Now in the Catching Fire book, “A mockingjay is a creature the Capitol never intended to exist. They had not counted on the highly controlled jabberjay having the brains to adapt to the wild, to pass on its genetic code, to thrive in a new form. They had not anticipated its will to live.” (Katniss 92) Katniss is talking about the mockingjay, the iconic symbol of the rebellion, but she may as well be talking about herself. The spirit of resistance and rebellion is alive in Katniss, though she doesn’t yet realize it. She survived her first Hunger Games despite being from the poorest District with, historically, the least-prepared tributes. Like the mockingjay, no one expected her to survive, but she was able to adapt to survival. The tributes themselves are symbols of a war fought 75 years ago, and their deaths serve as a reminder of the power the Capitol wields. However, the Capitol underestimated Katniss’s own will to live, as well as her defiance. Katniss is more than a symbol she is a human being. She has grown up under the Capitol’s rules, and now they are forced to contend with…

The Hunger Games is a book that highlights the predicaments of western democracies, though exaggerated. The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins is set in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem, North America. Each year the Capitol organizes an event known as the Hunger Games: a horrendously gory battle between 24 randomly-selected teenagers from the oppressed Districts of Panem. The government broadcasts this onslaught live on television as entertainment for the Capitol citizens and as a timely reminder of the totalitarian government’s control over all twelve Districts. The Hunger Games positions all readers to caution western democracies, like Australia, to not lose sight of the value of democracy and not become complacent in allowing dictatorship to become a reality. This essay will discuss the division and control between the Capitol and Districts, the social inequality and the role of the competitors. The problems highlighted in the book are very closely linked to inequalities found throughout the world today, for example the contrasting western democracy of USA with communist North Korea.…
