This is England was written by Shane Meadows in 2006, and it brings light to the young skinhead culture in the early 1980’s.
This is England is a movie about the young boy Shaun whom has lost his father, and turns to the skinhead culture for manly role models and friends. One day after school where Shaun has been in a fight, he comes across some young men who sit down at talks with him. Shaun quickly becomes a part of the little group, and he swiftly sees the guys especially Woody as more than just friends. Shaun grows a bond to the group and winds op spending most of his time with the group. But things take a change when Combo one of the older skinheads is released from prison. Combo is a much more liberal skinhead, and after a short amount of time he decides to weed out the people whom are not ready to fight for the group and their country. Woody and some of the original boys leave the group, but Shaun decides to stay. Combo preaches about England and in a very extreme way convinces Shaun that his father died for nothing. And what started as an innocent group for Shaun, end up with Combo beating and choking his friends.
Combo is in comparison to the other guys in the group very extreme, and he is convinced that England is the best and proudest country in the world. He’s believes almost takes him to the level of a Nazi, because not only does he think that England is the best country but he is also hostile against foreigners. He believes that they come to England, only to take the jobs of the proud hard working Englishmen. The skinhead group is a way that he can bring his faith into action; with people with the same believes as himself.
Shaun on the other hand starts out as an innocent young boy, who believes in nothing but making his dad proud. When Shaun joins the group, it is to find friends and manly roles models, not to fight the foreigners. But when combo comes back to the club, he realises that by
