Movie Evaluation: World War Z
World War Z Evaluation World War Z was directed by Marc Forster, and made over five hundred million dollars globally. It was one of the many summer blockbuster hits released this year, and made $66,411,834 in its first weekend of being released. The movies lead actor (Brad Pitt) also plays the role of the producer. World War Z is a fantastic movie because of its special effects, cinematography, and score. World War Z, which was released on June 21, 2013, first premiered in London, England. It stars Brad Pitt as stay at home dad Gerry Lane and Mirielle Enos as his wife, Karen Lane. World War Z begins in the city of Philadelphia as the beginning of the “zombie apocalypse” is happening. Gerry Lane and his family flee the city and come in contact with his former employer, the United Nations. They go on a journey to discover what caused this so called “zombie apocalypse” and to try to find a cure. They travel from the middle of the ocean, to Korea, and to the “safe” area of Israel. The movie ends with all of the Lane family reunited together again and follows the current zombie theme. One thing that World War Z does that makes it such a great movie is its use of special effects. “It cannot be denied that some of the special effects are truly thrilling” (Seibold). One area of these thrilling special effects is the “zombies.” The special effects make them quite real when, obviously, they are not actually zombies. The actors still look human, but not quite human. With white eyes that seem empty and the slightly discolored skin, they look convincing. The special effects during the action scenes in the movie are also phenomenal. The explosions that surround the city and all of the fire look very real and add intensity. The city looks completely devastated as the large buildings collapse and the smoke rises high into the sky. The special effects really recreate true destruction and create the devastated wasteland look. All of these special effects truly add to

In the movie, Spielberg shot the movie from a soldier's point of view where the camera moved along with other soldiers." While focusing on the main craft, holding members of Captain Miller’s squad, the camera is positioned at eye-level as it records individual, medium close-up shots of the various soldiers onboard. The camera moves with the boat as it makes its way through the water and provides a visual sensation for the audience of personally being there and gazing into the soldier’s eyes – an emotional connection with the subject is formed”(Goering). This makes the audience feel like they’re right in the battlefield with the characters. Spielberg used different camera techniques to capture the brutality of War. He shot the movie using a desaturated color lens to make the shots seem more realistic. He also used many close up shots to show the horrors of war.In the movie real gun shot sound was used to make it more believable. During the battle scenes, the movie was shot without any music to show the seriousness of it. It also showed the horrific battle scene without demonizing the significance of it. In other part of the scenes music was used. The music made the scenes more…

In the film also pointed out examples of “total war” where you see how the United States bombed Germany in the daytime and used weapons of mass destruction. I found where when the 918 Bomb Group used their ammunition to take out German aircrafts exemplified “weapons of mass destruction “and vice versa when Germany also too used their ammunition to take out U.S. aircrafts and both having the will to use them.…

Gone with the Wind was produced to coincide with World War II. It was made as an inspiration to the people of 1939 to give them hope about their future after the war. It was intended for both the soldiers taking part in the war, as well as the people left behind. It showed the world a realistic view of war rather than a glamorized version of war we so often see in movies. The movie Gone with the Wind was written in a point of view which keeps the audience more involved in the movie, making them feel as if they were a part of the film, and closer to history.…

Casablanca starts as a news reel. You see a slowly turning globe that highlights the ally countries and the axis countries during WW II. Also, there is a documentary-style narration at the beginning of the movie, which sets the tone for a war time movie. Also, there is a scene in the movie where Germans are at Rick's bar sing a German song. Then Victor causes the bar band to begin playing a patriotic French song, which quickly over takes the sound of the German soldiers' voices. I believe this scene in the movie portrays Casablanca as begin a pro-war movie. It shows that although it may take time the ally forces while overcome the Germans.…

Movies are always trying to duplicate what actually happened in real life. The directors have to read and learn about the specific time and the events that they want their movie to be based upon. During WWII, there were many critical moments that could be historically accurate or inaccurate. Empire of the Sun directed by Steven Spielberg, is a historically accurate movie because it depicts what is what like for a younger child to live in a concentration camp during the middle of a war. The movie is a true story based on the memories of J.G. Ballard who is portrayed as Jamie in the movie(Berardinelli 1).…
