As technology has grown immensely in the past century, we have seen the rise of many movies surrounding this topic. Movies ranging from family friendly flicks about the bond between a fighting machine and boy while others explore the science behind technological advances in educational films. However, the large majority seem to highlight the morbid possibility of what could happen when technology turns against us. These examples are found all throughout the media, but are dramatized to a whole new degree on movie posters. In my case, I am specifically referencing both the 2001: a space odyssey poster as well as the recently released Ex Machina poster. Both posters are meant to pitch the idea of where technology is going to be taking us. Yet, in the 2001: space odyssey the message is lacking and bordering on tangent to the movie in comparison to Ex Machina. On one side we see a poster about an epic adventure through space, but is conveyed in a poor way that takes away from the enjoyment of a topic such as space. Whereas on the other hand, we have the Ex Machina poster conveying a dark and eerie feeling that sells the movie exactly for what it is. Though Ex Machina is a clear winner here, to truly understand such rationale we must deeply analyze the visual rhetoric in both posters.…

One of the most powerful movie elements to how the audience perceives a scene of the film is often looked over. Close to all pivotal movie scenes contain the little background music, also known as underscore. This powerful audio element effects the way audiences feel and react to a scene. The underscore that is present in The Book Thief greatly impacted the tone, mood, and suspense of certain scenes. Three of these scenes that were greatly impacted by underscore were when the Nazi party came to check basements for air raid shelters, when Liesel writes her life story in the basement, and when Liesel walks up Himmel Street after the bomb hits.…

What are the differences between watching a movie and reading a novel? There are some contrasts between the two actions. One of the differences is by watching a movie, you just need to sit and relax. It is very easy since you only need to watch it and understands it. Furthermore, you can watch the movie while doing something else such as eating or exercising. While having the option to read the novel, The Cay or watch the movie, The Cay I would rather read the book. I believe the book, by Theodore Taylor, is better because of the fact that there is far more details of the adventure that Phillip and Timothy had in the book than in the movie, produced by Walter Seltzer. I also can see in the movie that there is a very low budget for the movie. I also believe that the fact that you can read Philip's mind it makes that story that much better and shows how much prejudice has to do with the whole story, while in the movie you never really know how prejudice Phillip is. It is almost like the movie was cut to the raft, sped through on the raft, told the whole story for the most part of while on the cay,…

Many people feel that book to movie adaptations give the readers a chance to connect with the characters and visualize what happens in the book. While many others believe that many important things that happen in the book may be left out or altered, changing the plot of the book entirely. One of these book to movie adaptations being Stardust by Neil Gaiman. After reading Stardust by Neil Gaiman and watching the movie “Stardust” 3 differences that impact the plot directly would be the role the lightning pirates play, Tristran did not tying the star to the tree, and in Dunstan telling Tristran about his faerie heritage right before he began his quest.…
