Movie Reflection
Krang Srey Leak Lecturer: OR Vitou Paragraph Writing II December 04, 2012

Last week I have watched a few movies, but I found only one movie very interesting. This movie is called “Silent Hill”. This movie carries 3 important points which can attract my mind. First, it hides a mystery. It seems that there is a terrible place where there are a lot of monster, but we can’t know clearly where it is. This place always appears when a girl, who is the most important actress, walks or goes somewhere alone, and it always appears in her dream as well. But it disappears when the real people come near her. It frightens her every day and night. That place is very strange. Second, this movie shows the bravery of the girl. She dares go to find her father at that strange place although she knows that it is dangerous, for she wants to help her father who was caught by the monster there. She decided without hesitation, and then she started her adventure. Finally, she found a coin which can show her the way to go to that place that is called “Silent Hill”. She is a very brave girl. Third, this movie shows the deep love of daughter to father, and husband to wife. The love between daughter to father is when the girl dares risk her life to help her father from the silent hill. Another one, the love between husband to wife is that her father decides to continue to live in a silent hill to find his wife, who is caught into the silent hill for a long time ago, although his daughter can help him go out. So that at the end of the story, her father still lives in silent hill and let her come out. It is so sensitive. I really like this movie, and I will watch it again when I have

characters of different races. The story begins with a car crash between Detective Graham Waters (Don Cheadle), along with his Hispanic partner, and an Asian woman who begins to shout racist insults at her after the “crash.” Detective Waters goes to the nearby crime scene to notice a shoe on the ground and soon after all that is revealed is the shocked and upsetting face that overtakes him. As the story progresses we begin to see different acts of random racism such as a Persian man buying a gun to protect his store and the racist speaking gun salesman, two young African Americans are looked at with racial fear by a Caucasian woman (Sandra Bullock) who is soon robbed by the young black men, and finally we see an unbelievable racial profiling act by police officer John Ryan (Matt Dillon) against a black couple. The couple are driving a car that matches the description of the stolen car shown one scene earlier, but the license plate, nor the description of the couple match the stolen vehicle’s perpetrators. We soon find out they were pulled over for merely being black.…

The narrative structure of the film is non-linear. It jumps from the past to the present and captures the different perspectives and experiences of different characters. By using a non-linear structure, we are able to draw parallels between our protagonist and her daughter as one has life-changing experiences and the other making life-changing discoveries. The recurring themes of remorse, forgiveness and resolution happen simultaneously in the past and present.…

The film Lincoln was based upon the presidency of Abraham Lincoln in the last 4 months of his life. The movie displays his efforts in passing the Thirteenth Amendment in the U.S Constitution that would ultimately abolish slavery. With the thought that the Civil War would be ending soon, Lincoln makes a critical decision to try and pass the amendment in the upcoming month of January. This amendment would restrict free slaves from being re- enslaved. The Radical Republicans believed this amendment would be rejected due to its lack of assurance. In the fall of 1864, several democrats lost their re-election campaigns which lead to Lincoln’s advisors in believing it is best to wait until the Republican heavy congress was seated. From this, they believed this would make it much easier to pass the amendment. Lincoln unrelentingly decides to keep the amendment in place to settle the slavery issue before the Civil War ended and the southern states mended into the union. All of Lincoln’s hope in passing the amendment depends upon the support from the Republican Party founder, Francis Blair. This was mainly because his influence would ensure all members of the Republican faction would support the amendment as well. As the war continues, it seems as if the Union has a much greater chance in victory although it is still not known. Blair was now eager to end the conflict as soon as possible.…
