Disney movies have become the new family amusement. This films are made for young children because of what they demonstrate. When children watch Disney movies, especially young girls, it can affect their understanding on how they should act at a young age. Snow White is a tale about a young beautiful girl who lives with her stepmother, the queen. Snow White’s beauty triggers her stepmother to be jealous of her, and the queen orders for the murder of her innocent stepdaughter. Later she discovers that Snow White is still alive and hiding in a cottage with seven friendly little miners. Disguising herself as an old-women, the queen brings a poisoned apple to Snow White, who falls into a death-like sleep that can be broken only by a kiss from the prince. Today's new lifestyle is teaching young girls that their beauty is more valuable than…
My Sister’s Keeper is a movie that introduces the world to the Fitzgerald family with its countless imperfections. The family carries some guilt when it comes to their youngest daughter Anna; who was genetically created to donate things such as blood and bone marrow to her older sister Kate, who has cancer. With tears and laughs, the film, My Sister’s Keeper, captured thousands of hearts across America with its incredible acting, capturing introduction, flash-back imagery and shady realness.…
The princess Bride does have a few weak moments, and lacks development of its characters and their personal storylines as well as poor dialogue choices at times. But overall this a great love story with some moments worthy of an action/adventure. The Medieval setting does support the plot and the characters in many ways such as speech and personalities. This is a film for all ages, and anyone interested in more traditional love…
From an acting stand point, I had no idea what I watched after seeing this show I just know that it wasn't theatre and it wasn't acting. I felt as if a bunch of adults were running around stage playing dress up and make believe because they failed to portray the characters. The actress Velma Kelly was not as bad as some of the others but she lacked dept and multiple dimensions. The lead Roxie Hart acted like a little bratty school girl which came across as if she had done no character work and got the part of Roxie that day. She had this obviously fake accent that…
“Inconceivable!” Stated Wallace Shawn in The Princess Bride. This amazing cinematography was written by William Goldman. This cinema is a lovely fairy tale adventure about a beautiful young woman named Buttercup and her true love Westley. He must find her after a long separation and save her. In this classic film, they have to battle the evils of a mythical kingdom of Florin to be reunited with each other. The Princess Bride is based on William Goldman’s novel.…
The acting in this play was great. The actor I was looking most forward to was Brooke Shields. Honestly don’t think that she was that great. It could have just been the character of Morticia, but after it was all over I felt like she stood out the least. To be fare it could have just been that she was having a bad night though because when she was handing out autographs after the play she apologized for not doing well. The other star, Roger Rees, was pretty good. He definitely was not my favorite part of the show, but he did a good job playing Gomez. He was somewhat dry, but he had enough to keep him memorable. Adam Riegler was the young boy who played Pugsley. He did an outstanding job and unfortunately wasn’t a huge part of the show. I would have liked it if they had involved him in a few more scenes. The best part of the show was definitely Rachel Potter in the role of Wednesday. She blew everyone else out of the water in terms of her acting and singing. She was the true star of the show in my opinion. The way she acted really made the audience want things to work for her and the character Lucas. The actors Heide Blickenstaff and Adam Grupper did a good job in the role of Lucas’ parents. I feel that they did there job in being good character foils to Gomez and Morticia. Jesse Swenson was another actor that I thought did great. He played Wednesdays love interest Lucas. He did a fantastic job and was almost as good as Rachel Potter. Another role which I was disappointed in was Brad Oscar…
On the other hand, all the men appear in the film, without any exception, are full of kindness: the Hunter who releases Snow White, Seven Dwarfs who fight the evil queen, the Prince who kisses, and even Cinderella’s own father and her future father-in-law. In conclusion, feminist has been demeaning and vilified by the society from the early Disney Princess Movie.…
To be completely honest, I would have to say that majority of the acting was very mediocre. I know it wasn’t supposed to be like something off of Broadway but I expected a lot more, and I felt like only a couple of actors came through with that. The acting was not terrible, but it wasn’t spectacular either. I felt like some characters were not putting their all into their characters. I also felt like some people should not have been casted into the roles they had received. Many times a background character would outshine a main character during the performance. Pertaining to the acting, I think that the fact that it was a musical added more stress to the actors which consequently could have placed a strain on their acting abilities. This is because they were most likely more concerned with their vocals. Something I did like in their acting was the fact that they used little children, I found that very adorable.…
Poniewozik begins by stating that it is a nightmare for the young girls wanting to be princesses today. Society expects every little girl wants to be a princess. Poniewozik blames Hollywood for this. It’s true in recent decades that Hollywood has produced quite a few cinderella stories and also many other fairy-tail type projects. It’s not a bad thing for them to do this because they’re making a large profit off these projects. Princess fairytale stories and movies are surprisingly popular today. Poniewozik claims that we have come a long way from the girls-kick-ass-culture of just a few years ago (Poniewozik 666).…
For a romantic movie to be as amazing as this one, the two main role need to have chemistry between them. The two leads in this particular movie do have chemisty between them. There is a scene in the movie where Luke was teaching Sophia how to ride, this scene really exebited the chemisty between the two. Personaly, my favorite charator in this movie is Luke Collins (see figure3). Scott Eastwood plays Luke in the movie and he does a fantastic job of doing so. Scott has the “physicality to do the bull riding and the physicality to work on a farm, but to also have the charm” (Lamoureux). Do not get me wrong I do love the actress that plays the role of Sophia. Britt Roberson as Sophia does a amazing job of protraying a New Jersy girl, goal-orinted, and at the same time being very likeable. When the two characters are put together the chemistry is created and it is…
Films that I particularly favor are thrillers. One reason Thrillers become so enjoyable for me, a sense of diversion is created making the viewers more indulge in the movie all the way to the ending. The plots are usually twisted, climatic, suspenseful and intelligence is often use far as the writing perspective to result in an ecliptic viewing of the movie. A really great thriller will usually bring a shock factor by the climax, then the movie will receive a better understanding from the beginning to end. Another genre of films I enjoy are Musicals they are fashionable and express emotions through singing. I am really into lyricism so I enjoy comparing the actual expression of the each character's individual story and the progression…
Heroes are brave, determined, courageous, and selfless people whop embark on a journey in order to fulfill a goal for the better good, every heroes journey is different. Some heroes fight dragons to save the castle and some like Westley steal the princess in order to protect her, Westley goes on a long journey where he faces many enemies and challenges but, he continues his journey to rescue his one true love. In The Princess Bride a novel by William Goldman, the character Westley is a hero because, he experiences all 6 stages of the heroic archetype structure including being called to action, crossing threshold, the road of tests, meeting the helpers, trip to the underworld, and the quest.…
Although I am not very familiar with poetic readings and readings from our Literature book, I did enjoy and was able to comprehend the book Daphnis and Chloe by Longus because it was fairly easy wording and I am somewhat familiar and interested in Greek mythology. Upon reading Daphnis and Chloe, I found a connection to a movie and novel I have seen before. I couldn’t figure out what it was until the professor brought it up in class. It was tied to The Princess Bride movie. I remember watching this movie over and over again and now I can see why I loved reading this novel in class and being able to understand its context. This essay will evaluate the movie The Princess Bride and the novel Daphnis and Chloe. I believe both of these stories’ timelines…
The film Away From Her, is a screenplay adaptation from the short story Bear came over the Mountain by Alice Munro. The story focuses around the relationship of Fiona and Grant, an Ontario couple married over 40 years. The couple is forced to face that fact that Fionas forgetfulness is actually Alzheimers disease. After Fiona wanders away and is found after being lost, she realizes that she can no longer live at home. Fiona has too much self-pride for herself, and too much pity for Grant, to subject him to her deteriorating mind. She makes the decision on her own to check into a comfortable nearby nursing home. The nursing home they choose has a no-visitors policy for the first thirty days of the patients stay, to let them adjust to their new settings. When Grant visits Fiona after the first month of her staying in the nursing home, he finds out that not only has she forgotten him, but Fiona has transferred her feelings to another man. The other man is Aubrey, a wheelchair bound mute patient at the nursing home. His wife Marian later moves Aubrey out of the home. As the distance between Grant and Fiona increases, Grant must sacrifice his own happiness for Fiona. This moving story, was told from the perspective of the director and screenplay writer, Sarah Polley. I believe that she used the films focus of Alzheimer, humour and intimacy between the characters to show an honest relationship of a forty-year marriage.…
October 29, 1929, some may know it as Black Tuesday, others know it as an important date in history but those who lived it know it as the day that changed their lives for many years to come. Black Tuesday marked the beginning of a new life style for the people of the 30’s. The stock market crashed and although its investors lost all they had, margin buyers were completely wiped out. This essay will examine the changes that followed the event that marked the Great Depression through the lives of James Braddock, Mae Braddock and the society as shown in the movie “Cinderella Man”.…
