Movie Review: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
I've always considered myself a chick flick or romantic comedy kind of girl. Last year, when there were no new movies out in which I was interested in, I decided to give Scott Pilgrim vs. the World a chance due to my obsession with Michael Cera, the main character. I was very hesitant at first, because the movie is based on a graphic novel, which obviously meant a lot of sci-fi and comic-con scenes that are, to say the least, not my top pick. As the movie progressed, I found myself really enjoying it and being in awe at the comic adaptations and graphics in every scene. Emanatas, such as light bulbs or question marks, were frequently used to describe the way characters were feeling; narratory blocks, motion lines and fighting "KAPOW!" sings were also applied with an amazing variety of color and graphics. Besides for the comic flashes, the aspect that really stood out was the sound effects. In scenes where two characters were arguing, there would be crashing and lightsaber noises; whereas in love scenes, the kissing sounds along with the visual hearts made it difficult not feel the characters passion. The way colors were used for the comic flashes, along with the sound effects really made this movie a moving comic book and exactly what you would expect if comics came to life. The fact that this movie had me, a sappy love story type of girl, amazed and talking about it goes to show how cool it really was. I can only imagine how excited comic-con nerd were when they watched it.

The most important criteria for judging this film is the great casting. The cast was excellently picked. Actors in a movie must be believable and able to pull their roles off extremely well. If not, the audience will become bored and uninterested. Jim Carrey does perfectly. In this film, he is absolutely brilliant and deserves extensive praise for this role. Kate Winslet…

Do you like funny/action movies? In my opinion, I love funny/action movies like “The Secret life of Walter Mitty”, about a young man and everywhere he goes, he daydreams of a girl name Cheryl Melhoff . One day Walter was pasting around in New York. He had received a phone call from a random man on the phone, but surprisingly it was Todd from E-harmony. Todd was helping Walter with his profile and explaining how he could send a wink to Cheryl to capture her attention. After a while Walter imagined that he smelled burning fire in the building, so he quickly ran and saved the love of his life, Cheryl. Cheryl was impressed by how he took the time to save her and how he waited to finally get that kiss he been waiting for. Walter ended up daydreaming about Cheryl everywhere he went. I found this movie really thrilling and enjoyable.…

Visuals and set design are very important to a movie. They build a whole new vision for the audience and also, especially in The Cell, give more personality and depth into the character. The creative and strange props used made this a very memorable movie.Visual effects bring in a whole new level of imagination and create a scene beyond what some people could conger up…

It always kept me paying attention and made me not want to leave to use the bathroom or get food. It was written Stephen king, a great American writer that a lot of his movies ended up being a movie. The only problem with the movie was I did not like how long it was because it was kind of hard finishing it without stopping it. I also wished that Wild bill had a worse punishment like a slow death or something because that was really wrong to what he did to the young girls and he made John die for no…

The soundtrack was impressive and gave suspense and drama as where needed. The special FX was up to date and gave a realistic feel to the movie. The cinematography is what brought this film's ratings up in my opinion. I really like the irony in the lightning, Especially Pegg's use of zoom-ins and quick cuts… hilarious. Also, the camera angles of when Ed drives himself and Shaun to his parent's house dodging zombies left and right was also very entertaining. I believe I almost jumped out of my seat in fright when Ed hit the lurking zombie speeding down the…

One thing I generally enjoyed the way they portrayed most of the characters. The characters had certain aspects to them that were exaggerated, and made it humorous but obvious what and who they were trying to portray. Though it was almost the border line of stereotyping the characters into a typical classification of a college liberal arts professor, a nun (personally my favorite), or a pair of over dramatic teenagers who are love struck half the time or too busy pouting with each other like the norm for a overdramatic teenage girl, besides, stereotypes exsist for a reason (not that they're right all the time either) . But all in all, that's what made them enjoyable, and able to laugh at. The costumes were also very helpful in portraying the characters and their personality. The costumes had a way of portraying these characters through half-stereotypical peiecs, like the required turtle neck and hipster glasses for a liberal arts professor, or the obligatory blouse and siut jacket for the lawyer and you cant forget the average white girl look either, with the boots, skinny jeans, sweater and a obligatory scarf to top it all off. And the scrubs uniform for the doctor as well as the unrevealing dress for the nun couldn't go unmentioned.…

Is that it does not take itself too seriously, it is funny, has action, cool looking tech, good actors, and good FX. I really enjoyed the “odd couple” relationship between Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith as displayed onscreen. Some of my favorite scenes were the use of the memory-wiper, a cool device to have to make people forget something, and the epic, exploding flying saucer scene at end of the film was awesome to watch. Moreover, of course, the very ending of the film showing our own Milky Way galaxy is merely a prized marble used on a board game by huge pan-denominational beings outside our own reality of the universe. This film is great on all accounts and much more appreciated then the films that came later in the…

The theme of the story “The Leaving”, was loneliness. This was portrayed by the main character Silas excellently. Silas is an older man that knows he is close to his end, but the sad thing is that at the end of the writing it appears, he not only accepts it will happen but wants it to happen sooner than later. It was weird, but when reading this, there was an eerie feeling of belonging for Silas, as he lived in a house that is broken down, having seen a lot of happiness in its prime. Unfortunately, at the current time, Silas has outlived every and any moment that will show him any happiness or joy.…

What really stood out for me was the exceptional use of such simple effects. In each scene the simplistic setting would not be able to portray a realistic one so a simple use of layering and only lighting what you want the audience to see, with the added accompaniment of sound effects would give the intended audience reaction the director (Robin Herford) wants.…

The first scene caught me off-guard, feeling and sensing the real people behind the hypnotic yet grotesque animation. At first it might distract or feel weird seeing shakiness all over and big eyes seemingly pulsating in and outside the lines of their faces, but after the initial unsettling cartoonish vibe, everything just becomes more surreal. It's art, and it's beautiful.…

I have always enjoyed action films. I would state that this fact does make me somewhat biased for this review. Fictional characters that are super heroes only made them better for me. I went into this movie knowing it was going to be one that I would enjoy. This year has had a few different super hero films such as The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. The Avengers released May 4th, 2012, was a box office hit, topping the charts for weeks. The Amazing Spider-Man was released just two months afterward on July 3rd. The super hero fan world was still in awe with The Avengers, myself included. I still wanted to watch The Amazing Spider-Man because I love super heroes. I give this movie 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.…
