Business description

With the emergence of new technology around the world cinema enthusiasts have taken the effort of developing cinema halls that includes best quality audio, visual and entertainment aspects. Despite the fact that we do have 2D and 3D cinemas in Sri Lanka, we do not have customized 3D cinemas which are also affordable. Taking this in to consideration our team has come up with the Xtreme cinema, where we hope to provide international standard experience.

Xtreme cinemas’ are targeting to give a thrilling experience which could not be experienced elsewhere.

Floor surface

This cinema would be built on a 50 perch block of land in Navam Mawatha. The building would be 3 stories which would be consisting of an underground car park that could accommodate at least 150 vehicles, 3 cinema halls out of which 2 halls would be 2D and 1 3D which would be consisting international standard latest technology that no one in Sri Lanka has to offer and 6 bathrooms for each hall out of which 3 would be ladies bathrooms and 3 would be gents.

Interior

The interior of the 2D cinema halls would be done by the Dalma Garden Mall. This would be including the seats and carpeting. The original size of the seats would be 600*400. Whereas the interior of the 3D cinema hall would be done by Oxana Zaluzhnaya, a Russian architect and interior designer.

Audio

Dolby digital sound system would be used for the cinema. The subwoofers, in on wall speakers and all other audio equipments would be assembled by a team of Sony experts themselves.

Cameras, projectors and screens

The Canadian company IMAX would be doing our setting our cinema projectors. IMAX’s 3D conversion technology enables live-action movies that were originally shot in 2D to be converted into 3D.

IMAX has an extensive range of cameras and accessories for specialty large-format film production. Standard, high-speed, ultra-high speed and animation cameras are available which would be purchased by our company to provide our audience and unforgettable experience.

Cafeteria

A team of our employees would be selected to and assembled to run the cafeteria. We have gotten hold with the usual suppliers who cater for the cinema hall cafeterias like Savoy and MC to supply for Xtreme cinema’s as well where we would be given for a much affordable price.

Out of the 3 cafeterias one would be a high end cafeteria where we would be providing pastries, quick bites, mochas, cappuccinos and coffees of that sort which would be opened from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. which would be run by sponge.

Generally, stadium seating found in modern megaplex theatres is preferred by patrons over slopefloored multiplex theatres, which were the predominant theatre-type built prior to 1996. Although, as of December 31, 2009, approximately 80% of Regal’s screens were located in theatres featuring stadium seating, we still serve many markets with sloped-floored multiplex theatres. These theatres may be more vulnerable to competition than their modern megaplex theatres.…

RealD Inc is a leading global licensor of 3D technologies while IMAX Corp specializes motion picture technologies and presentations. While the two markets may seem mutually exclusive, they are not, and with indications of both parties having intentions to foray into broader market segments, the competition between both parties could not be more intense than it is now. Even though it may seem that IMAX is performing better, a deeper look into the financial statements of both companies shows that each company has its own strengths and weaknesses. It is also reassuring to see that RealD is improving upon its financial position while IMAX seems to be slipping. RealD also appears to have its finger on the pulse of new trends in consumer electronics and has also developed and expanded a recycling plant that not only curtails costs but boosts its corporate image. Provided RealD positions itself in the right way, it is very likely that it will gain the upper hand in this bitter-sweet rivalry.…

IMAX films are shot and projected on 15 perforation /70mm film - the largest film format in existence. It is only possible to project these onto the huge screen because of the remarkable high definition and clarity of these film frames. And it is these huge film frames that are at the heart of the IMAX experience. Three times larger than the traditional 70 mm cinemascope frames they have pushed the quality of motion picture images to new heights (quite literally). The key to their superior performance and reliability is the unique “Rolling Loop” film movement, interestingly an Australian invention, developed by Ron Jones. The Rolling Loop advances the film horizontally in a smooth, wave-like motion. During projection, each frame is positioned on a fixed registration point and the film is held firmly against the rear element of the lens by a vacuum. As a result, the picture and focus steadiness are far above normal standards and provide outstanding image clarity. The powerful 3D projector uses two 15,000 watt bulbs (the average 35mm projector uses a bulb between 2,000 and 4,000 watts). The huge heat generated requires a dedicated cooling system that pumps 1,600 cubic metres of air and 36 litres of distilled water through the lamp housing every minute to keep the projector…

Direct cinema has had a great influence on the film industry since the 1950s, when portable sound equipment became available to filmmakers. This allowed them to experiment with location interviews and realistic lighting which easily captured natural emotions or reactions of the subjects. Filmmakers had the advantage of being up close and personal with the individuals being filmed and considering this, direct cinema was sometimes named cinéma vérité.…

The 1950s loved technology. This era saw a major collision between technology and consumer culture. Hollywood’s attitude towards it was invariable reactive. The 1950s was the first financially successful rollout of both widescreen and 3D processes. Filmmakers and entertainers owe a great deal of gratitude to this movement in spectacular screen display and the making of trailers (Johnston, 2009).…

The projection system supplies industry is very attractive, but the motion picture production industry is less appealing. The recommended strategy reduces the threat of substitutes by adding more value for theatre-goers at a much lower price than substitute activities. Supplier power is much lower for IMAX films, as big-budget actors and directors are not needed for production. IMAX’s trusted brand image and edutainment focus create a differentiated position that mitigates intense rivalry and threat of entry. Differentiation from competitors is lacking in the current strategy.…

According to IMDb.com, James Cameron’s Avatar has become the highest grossing film ever to achieve more than $2 billion. Avatar earned $2,783,165,628 because 2/3 of its tickets sold are for 3D watching. This phenomena made people starts to think that this is the era of 3D. Now, almost every movie is produced in 3D. And to enjoy 3D movies at home, vendors start to provide 3D facilities such as 3D TVs, 3D Blu-Ray players, 3D projectors, etc. Despite the fact that 3D is very interseting to watch, not many people realize that watching 3D movies also has disadvantages. These drawbacks would make 3D movies not accepted easily in public. I personally think that watching 3D movies is bad for health, a waste of dimension and high in cost.…
