Moving Away Speech

As you know, I have to move away for awhile. Leaving you even for a day is a struggle, but I know it is important to complete my journey also. Even though I am always a phone call (or text or email) away, I want you to know how proud I am of you and the young man you are becoming. I want to share with you some words of wisdom to help you while I am gone. I know you may cringe or ask yourself why I am talking about these things, but I want you to be prepared for a successful future. Growing up can have many bumps in the road. I have told you many times that you have the biggest heart of anyone I know. You are so kind and considerate to others; you show empathy and give strength and support to others. When I was struggling after Marcus passed away, you lifted me up with your kindness. Unfortunately, some people that come into your life may not have the same heart as you. Others may want you to do things you know are wrong or could be harmful to others. Classmates may bully others on SnapChat or Facebook. Teenagers may use drugs or alcohol at parties and then want to drive you home. Remember one of our house rules – believe in yourself. Trust your heart and character to lead you in the right direction. It is okay to say “No”
I get that you don’t want to take growth hormone shots, but Dad and I may need to take control of this situation to help you to prevent further bullying. We love you no matter how tall you are, but sometimes kids are mean and think it’s funny to harass other students. It breaks my heart to see you hurting in any way, so I can’t stand by and just watch. I need you to promise me that you will continue to always talk to Dad or me about this. You are not alone!! I know I will not physically walk into your room every night to have a conversation with you, but I am available anytime you need me. (Remember, if you don’t call me, I’ll just keep calling you until you answer.
