Moving Heaven And Earth Summary
I think people are influenced with carbon dioxide discharged in the environment in small amounts of electricity and from automobiles and buses. However, people are abusing the environment with CO2, which I believe is creating major global warming problems. After reading the chapter, Moving Heaven and Earth, he explained how in the last couple of centuries, we had to help reshape the earth’s surface. Likewise, they had to determine where certain plants would grow, develop mines and wells that might have some input on the earth’s crust. Also, I learned that we have used a huge amount of the planet’s water.
In the reading he explains geo-engineering, which is the human engineering of our planet and atmosphere. When using geo-engineering they

Carbon dioxide is naturally present in the atmosphere as part of the Earth 's carbon cycle. Yet human-related emissions are responsible for the increase in CO2 emissions. The use of electricity accounts for 37% of total U.S. emissions, while transportation 31%, industry accounts for 15%, residential and commercial 10%, and other non-fossil fuel combustion 6%. That is 99% of the total globe greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the United States increased by about 7% between 1990 and 2013. (EPA, 2015) Not leaving out pollution also a contributor of increases in anthropogenic CO2. These things are the cause of the earth heating up, or global warming. Trees and plants help soak up the CO2 in the atmosphere but with the tearing down of trees to build industry buildings, residential and commercial buildings there are fewer trees and plants to take in CO2 for photosynthesis.…

On pages 283-284 of When Heaven and Earth Changed Places, Le Ly meets a Korean proprietor, Lee, through Red, her boyfriend. Lee makes her spin around foolishly and asks her if she can dance. Le Ly is confused and says no because there is not any music playing. Red replies that Le Ly dances like a “firecracker”. She is still so confused until Lee explains the whole thing. Lee says that he would pay her a week’s worth of hospital wages if she works as a “go-go dancer” in his club for one night. He says that many Americans come to his club and that they give extra tip to the girls who put on the best show. Le Ly does not say yes, but she cannot make herself say no, thinking about all the money she could raise in…

Interestingly, there is a very continuous debate as to how significant human, or economic intervention is to affecting Global warming, and how much of it can be put down to natural causes. Nonetheless, there are clear pieces of evidence provided that suggests global warming is down to anthropogenic causes, and that of economic activity. Firstly, the mass amount of deforestation that takes place across the world today can have drastic effects on global temperatures. For example, vegetation works in harmony with human life as they help to keep the balance of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by absorbing it, with the growing number of trees being cut down, and an ever increasing population, the balance is being lost. As a result of this, there is a noticeable increase in CO2 within the earth’s atmosphere. The Amazon for instance; absorbs approximately 35% of the worlds annual carbon dioxide emissions and produces over 20% of the worlds oxygen. In addition to this, the Amazon is home to more than half the world’s estimated 10 million species of plants, animals and insects that’s are rapidly losing their habitats. Mass deforestation can cause huge climatic problems in the future, for example, it has been estimated that there will be an increase in temperature of around 2-3 degrees Celsius by 2050 if deforestation continues to occur at its current rate. Environmentally, this causes great damage to the environment as the earth’s natural resources are being…

Human are the ones putting a huge impact on the carbon cycle. Humans are tearing apart important animal territory. they are tearing down trees and moving plants, in order to add house, expand and make buisneses. Since they are expanding the area and then bringing in more humans in return we use more of our fossil fuels increasing the carbon dioxide into the air. For example just recently near my house the were adding on to the hospital. That involves clearing out acres and acres of land just to begin the process of laying foundation. While doing this the construction companies used a lot of heavy machinery that released carbon dioxide into the air. Once construction was complete they did replant some plants and trees all around the building and parking lot, not as many as there were but they at least attempted to add some back in the area.…

Human influences also contribute to climate change by increasing in the CO2 levels. Carbon dioxide is greenhouse gas. That means warm air is staying close to the Earth like in a greenhouse. The increase in the CO2 levels has been a problem over the years due to carbon dioxide. There are twenty-nine billion tons emitted in our atmosphere. Forty-three percent still stick around that called airborne fraction. Deforestation is big factor in how we contribute to climate change. Deforestation means our forests are being burned down for building cities and for farming. This is hurting our atmosphere and our animals, trees and etc.…

Another way that humans cause global warming is by deforestation, which lowers the amount of oxygen being produced and carbon dioxide being consumed because there are less plants to facilitate these processes. This increases carbon dioxide emissions and this release of carbon dioxide heats the atmosphere. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, when carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere, it absorbs infrared photons rising from the surface and re-emits them back towards the surface. This creates a constant heat loop which essentially heats the Earth because heat can not escape the atmosphere.…

The atmosphere is choking from excessive amounts of carbon dioxide. Greenhouse gases are melting polar icecaps and rising sea levels. Deforestation is diminishing our chances of ever discovering new species in forests and destroying the carbon cycle. Humans do in fact have the capability of changing the basic chemistry of this massive planet. Scientific evidence shows that we have already contributed to irreversible climate change. Humankind has an obligation to reconcile its difference with the environment and learn to conserve natural resources. Conservation begins with knowledge, which leads to action, which will save our…

Today, the world is experiencing anthropogenic global climate change. This means that there is a global climate change that is being caused by humans, which is all of us. Many people are in denial that global climate change, or commonly known as global warming, is really occurring. But, global warming really is happening and there is scientific proof. In the TED talk, James Balog explains how the arctic icebergs are the “canary in the global coalmine.” The ice is deflating and receding at a very rapid rate which is higher than it ever has. Sea level is set to continue to rise at a faster rate than over the past 40 years because of the melting ice, which is proof that global warming is really happening. Also, carbon dioxide is at an unprecedented level not seen for at least the last 800,000 years. It is released through natural processes but also through human activities such as deforestation, land use changes, and burning fossil fuels. Humans have increased atmospheric CO2 concentration by a third since the Industrial Revolution began. The carbon dioxide levels are directly related to the population of the world.…

According to the article Global Warming on NASA’s website, published by Holly Riebeek on June 3, 2010, between 1906 and 2005 the Earth’s average surface temperature rose between 1.1 to 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit. This is not the first time the Earth’s climate has changed. The climate has experienced changes since the beginning of time. Small differences that occur in the Earth’s orbit cause a somewhat different temperature. The sun is the main ingredient when it comes to temperature. In the past, the Earth’s orbit has changed, causing a slight change in temperature (Riebeek 1). This is not what the controversy sweeping the world. The problem is the more drastic change recently because of humans. The Earth has a natural heating mechanism called the Greenhouse Effect. The Greenhouse Effect is a necessary part of human existence. However, the problem is humans are increasing these greenhouse gasses by burning fossil fuels, such as oil, and burning down forests, increasing the carbon dioxide level (2). Without all this, humans would face an inevitable downfall.…

Scientists know more than ever before about how the Earth’s climate is changing and what that will mean for people, habitats and wildlife across the planet (National Geographic, 2012). Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are drying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace (National Geographic, 2012). This climate change is affecting our health as well as our economy. Lately, the earth has been showing many signs of climate change. It is not cooling down at all causing the presence of global warming. Global warming can be defined as “an increase in the earth 's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution” (Merriam-Webster, 2012). This paper will explain why human activity is a substantial cause of global warming and discuss what can be done by the human race to stop global warming.…

The earth has been around for billions of years and many issues in our time as a species have risen up. One matter that has come up is the issue of global warming or climate change. This conflict has been around for many years, but has started to get worse every year, since the United States and other countries have been emitting carbon dioxide into the earth’s atmosphere. Global warming is an urgent issue; moreover, there exists a controversy on whether humanity or nature is the cause, and the scientists who consider this a serious matter are entirely correct because humans are at fault.…

There are also other factors causing this too; humans aren’t the only ones causing this. According to NASA, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which is a group of 1,300 scientists from all over the world reported that there is a staggering 95 percent chance that our planet has become warmer. Mostly due to increased human activities. Since we have become so industrialized; the waste product, CO2, has increased significantly. According to NASA, CO2 levels have increased from 280 parts per million to 400 parts per million. Another contributing factor are the polar ice caps and glaciers melting; they have trapped CO2 in them, and when they melt that trapped CO2 is released out into the atmosphere too. This is a chain reaction of humans being more industrialized. Some other greenhouse gases that effect the warming of Earth include methane and nitrous oxide. Before the Earth started to go through climate change; when the Earth got hot during the day it would always cool down by night enough. But with greenhouse gases they insulate the heat and they just get trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere, and the Earth doesn’t cool down as much as it did perviously. Since the polar ice caps and glaciers are melting which is leading to sea levels rising. Since the sea levels are rising they are starting to take some of the costal areas of some countries. I’ve witnessed this myself as a kid. When I…

Global warming is more danger than any other disasters, and it can destroy our world in the future. Global warming is not just happen in certain parts of the Earth, but it happens to all over the world. For example, the warming of the global vapors the water up in the air, and then there will be more rains. Moreover, the warming makes the ice melts. When the ice melts, the ocean will rise. If the ocean rises higher, then the lands will be flooded with water (Meadows, 2002). In fact, since 1990, yearly emissions of carbon dioxide have gone up by about 6 billion metric tons worldwide, that's more than a 20% increase. Almost all of that increase is due to human activities. In addition, 2000-2009 was the hottest decade on record, with eight of the hottest 10 years having occurred since 2000 (11 Facts About Global Warming). To solve this problem, global warming, we should stop cutting trees, use less of electricity, and drive less. “Trees and other plants collect carbon dioxide (CO2)” (Meadows, 2002). Good air is from trees, so if we cut down trees then we will lose oxygen—the air that plants give back to us. In particularly, trees help reduced flooded. The second way that we must do to stop the warming is that we should use less electricity: turning on lights, watching T.V, computers on, etc. Electricity caused more greenhouse gasses to be sent into the air, and the result is that it turns out to be unhygienic in the air (Meadows, 2002). The third way that we should do to save the global is to drive less in everyday. If it is not necessary to drive, then we should walk or ride a bike because less driving saves energy and caused less pollution to the air. For example, if individuals are going to same location as someone else’s going, then they should ride with the other. Therefore, this way reduces the number of cars on the road. In conclusion, some solutions to avoid global warming are stop cutting trees, use less of electricity, and drive less if not…

The current situation of the world is becoming a fact that the world gets hotter and hotter. What makes the Earth become hotter has been an issue in debates around the world. The current cycle of global warming is changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely upon. What will we do to slow this warming? How will we cope with the changes we 've already set into motion? While we struggle to figure it all out, the face of the Earth as we know it—coasts, forests, farms, and snowcapped mountains—hangs in the balance. Everybody knows that the earth temperature is getting higher each year and that is why people gathered together and make a campaign to save the earth. The question is who made the Earth temperature become higher? Some people agree that human being is the major cause of the temperature rising. Although, on the other hand, some people blamed nature for its slow development and it is the right of human being to use the natural resources in order to fulfill human being’s daily life. People came out with lots of campaigns to heal the world. On the other hand, some people argue it is useless. It is important to know what really causes the earth temperature rise, which is human being’s mistake. It is also important to know its effectiveness, how can we get the solution and in what point people who see this problem differently must know.…
