Moving Out Of New York: A Descriptive Analysis
New York has become so expensive that many city residents have been forced to relocate. Everything in New York is just a little bit harder than everywhere else. Most people tend to think that those who move into NYC replacing those who depart tend to earn less money. But, according to The U.S. Census Bureau Between April 2010 and July 2016, 846,669 more people moved out of New York state than moved in. That's the largest outflow in the country.

Leslie Edwards (Matthew Perry), a clumsy aristocrat, and the hilarious Bartholomew Hunt (Chris Farley) are competing against the famous Lewis & Clark to be the first to chart and make it across the United States to the Pacific Ocean. In the beginning of the film, Edwards has high hopes to head the first expedition to make it across the U.S., but while he has the want and the money, he is a sheltered man who knows nothing of the wilderness. To aid in his journey, he hires the services of a supposedly knowledgeable wilderness-man and tracker, Hunt, who, once they get underway, turns out to be less than advertised (too good to be true haha). Aided by a crew of various rugged frontiersmen, they are also joined by their group's version of Sacagawea, a young Indian woman by the name Shaquinna (incredible), who plays a big part in helping them find their way across the dangerous and unknown land ahead, as well as, eventually becoming Edwards' love interest.…

In 1825 there were just over 100,000 people living in New York City. Life for New Yorkers had been a steady, regular flow of every day life but the period between 1825 and 1860 was a time of truly unprecedented growth but a new era of modern lifestyle was about to emerge and take New York’s citizens by surprise. What used to be a very traditional way of life started becoming more modernised and by the end of the 1960s, the New York population had reason to that of one million people.…

Despite the several hurricanes that have occurred in Florida the past couple years, I think it's safe to say that Florida can also be a pleasant place to live. With its mostly sunny weather, friendly disposition, and many exciting attractions, Florida almost doesn't seem like the type of place to have such horrific weather at times. I, personally, even after knowing so many good qualities about the sunshine state, still am not convinced that Florida would be a nice place to live.…

People relocate all the time. There are many places to choose from. I think that the most common deciding factor is the climate you may like or dislike. You may choose to live in the North where you can enjoy the falling snow and skies strapped to your feet, or down South where you might prefer fun in the sun, and sand between your toes. Though both places can offer different climates, they can also have some similarities. Where would you like to live?…

As a child I have always wanted to help other people. When I was 8 my parents decided to separate. At the time, my mother decided to move my sister and I away from Chicago. My mother packed our luggage and decided to move us to Detroit. That wasnt the only time we moved, we moved four times while I was growing up, all over the country and even to another continent. Eventually we had to leave our mom in Nigeria and my sister and I went to Detroit. When we got to Detroit my aunt didn't hesitate to make us feel comfortable. It was just something about it,I still didn't feel right. I called my mother one day crying to her and explaining how we didn't like being there. After talking to her, I felt that it was time to go back to Chicago. I called my dad, (knowing I haven’t spoke/seen him for many years) and explained to him the situation on how we felt uncomfortable in Detroit.…

The holidays are fast approaching and I can't believe it. The leaves have changed colors and are falling rapidly off the trees. It seems like I looked and blinked and an entire year just just flew by, and my now little girl is not so little anymore. I've been going through photos of past Christmases and I can see the growth that has taken place throughout the year. As most of you know, I grew up in the Caribbean and I never experienced snow until we moved to the United States. Christmas for us meant cotton dresses and tees and we were even able to wear shorts as well, because it was summer all year round. Now fast forward to today, and I have children of my own and they need different wardrobes for each season including the holidays. The…

What do we think causes these housing and income problems? The answer is unemployment and unaffordable housing all of which stems from one root; with poverty. This also stems from the fact that over a third of adults in East Harlem have a college degree; however, a high percentage (26%) has not completed high school and this causes poverty and unemployment issues Statistics shows that about one in eight East Harlem adults ages 16 and older are unemployed, and nearly half of residents spend more than 30% of their monthly gross income on rent which puts them below the poverty line. The median household income is around $30,000 compared to the benchmark median around $55,000 for all of New York City, (Goodman, 2013). East Harlem has a greater percentage of residents living below the poverty which is twice as high as in Manhattan and New York City overall (Community Health Profiles, 2006, p.…

    Gentrification In America

Gentrification really is a wide-spreading issue that is occurring through out all America, better yet all over the world, but it especially in New York. The New Yorkers that are effected by gentrification are mainly lower-class Americans, and they are not benefiting from gentrification at all because gentrification deals with the rise of the middle and upperclass, and not of the lower-class New Yorkers. The issue with gentrification is that the people who are part of the lower-class tend to be the majority of the New York population, meaning that if gentrification continues it will lead to the complete depletion of the lower-class.…

After our presentations this past week I was provided with a lot of insight on places all over the united states that I may want to move too in the future. It is very important too travel and break out of your comfort zone in order to experience new things in life. That being said I have narrowed where I would like to move down to two different places, but there is one place I refuse to move too, because it would be too much of a culture shock for a boy who was born and raised in Middlesex County, New Jersey.…

The story of the Puerto Rican people is unique in the history of U.S. immigration, just as Puerto Rico occupies a distinctive—and sometimes confusing—position in the nation’s civic fabric. Puerto Rico has been a possession of the U.S. for more than a century, but it has never been a state. Its people have been U.S. citizens since 1917, but they have no vote in Congress. As citizens, the people of Puerto Rico can move throughout the 50 states just as any other Americans can—legally, this is considered internal migration, not immigration. However, in moving to the mainland, Puerto Ricans leave a homeland with its own distinct identity and culture, and the transition can involve many of the same cultural conflicts and emotional adjustments that most immigrants face. Some writers have suggested that the Puerto Rican migration experience can be seen as an internal immigration—as the experience of a people who move within their own country, but whose new home lies well outside of their emotional home territory.…

New York City is known as a center of art, culture, fashion and finance with iconic sites such as Times Square, The Statue of Liberty, and The Empire State Building. There are certain aspects which are easily identified with New York City such as skyscrapers, rap, the subway, and Broadway. However, in my mind, there is one aspect of New York City which I feel represents the city as a whole. One place that can be found in each neighborhood with different ambiences and different people. Diners are delightful environments and food joints serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Diners show the traits which make New York City so enjoyable for me.…
