Research indicates that there is a positive correlation between consumption of high fructose corn syrup and obesity percentages. Sucrose is the leading added sweetener in in the manufacture of foods in the Unites States and is the biggest source of fructose. Sucrose and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are metabolized identically and react the same way to insulin, leptin and ghrelin. Sucrose is indifferent from HFCS in causing obesity. Compared to glucose, sucrose is extracted directly from the liver while glucose goes directly to the bloodstream causing larger sugar spikes. HFCS and sucrose have an identical effect on glucose and hormones such as insulin. Sucrose=50% glucose + 50% fructose; HFCS = . 55% fructose + 45% glucose. Excessive amount of fructose intake as added sugar…

    Wheel and Axle

Referring to Figure 1 when the wheel is released from rest and subsequently rolls down the slope, it accelerates and hence gains energy. Now for a rolling wheel the kinetic energy has two components, translational due to the bodily movement of the mass centre down the slope and rotational due to the wheel spin. Now the source of this energy is the loss in potential energy as the wheel moves down the slope. If it is reasonable to assume that friction effects are insignificant then no energy is lost. Thus the loss in potential energy becomes a gain in kinetic energy.…

Just about everything you do from moving to eating to listening to music involves physics. Now that I have really explored them I think it is hard to go about our day and not do something that involves physics. Some of the things I will talk about are getting out of bed, the eye and how eye glasses help a person see better, speakers, the Frisbee, sailing, and the pulleys I use to get my jeep unstuck in the mud when I ride in the woods.…

This Lab is about conservation of momentum. It is to investigate the difference of momentum before and after collisions. Using the photo gates record the velocity of each cart, comparing momentum and kinetic energy to find the law. The experimental apparatus are two red carts in approximately same weight and a gold cart in lower weight than the red ones, a stable air track (blow a constant stream of air out through numerous tiny holes) with low friction and two photo gates.…
