Introduction
This paper will cover the aspects of Jesus’ example for leadership in great detail. It will discuss the role of the Holy Spirit in leadership and the importance of Him in church leadership. Secondly, servant leadership will be discussed using Wilkes model of the towel and basin. Thirdly, “The what of leadership" will be broken down into six key elements and how they function in the church. Fourthly, "The how of leadership" will detail Blanchard’s and Hersey’s situation leadership model. Finally, leadership will be divided into three areas: A gift, a calling and a ministry.
Affirming the role of the Holy Spirit in the Emergence of the Christian Leader
There are no spiritual leaders that can credit self for their successful ministry. No leader can deny the active and leading of the Holy Spirit. Many Christian leaders deny the power of the Holy Spirit and therefore they limit their abilities as a leader. Elliston gave three basic roles that the Holy Spirit plays in the emerging leader’s life. These roles will help better explain the dynamic at which the Holy Spirit operates in the emerging leader’s ministry. These roles are: 1) the superintending role of the Holy Spirit, 2) the selecting/equipping role of the existing leaders and church family and 3) the trusting/obedient role of the emerging leader.
