Echoes, Silence, Darkness ……..

Well into their journey, Mr. Jones’s search team discovers the cave. They stand at the mouth of it, wondering if the missing children are inside. “Mr. Jones, would those children go in that dark hole?” one of the search team children asks fearfully. “I’m not going in there. I’ll wait here and watch while you guys go in. Maybe the missing campers will show up. Then I’ll shout out, they’re here, they’re here.”
“No, you can’t stay here by yourself. We have to stick together. Smith, stay close by her. Come on, let’s move,” Mr. Jones responds to the frightened camper. He leads the way holding a lantern in front of him. The rest of the team follows behind, as each of the counselors securely takes hold of each child’s hand. The search team enters the cave very cautiously, calling the names of the missing campers, “Missy! Marcus! Buddy! Jody! Gregg!” All they receive are responses to their own

Exhaustion is certainly taking its toll on them. It is evident that they are getting tired from taking turns at the oars. The weather begins to clear up again. The rain did not fall. The wind abates. The sun peeks out from behind the fluffy, white clouds. Instead of the water being rough, it is crystal clear and smooth as glass. All at once, as the boat is rounding the northern point of the island, Marcus shouts, “Land ahead. I told you we would see the campsite. Look in the distance. Way down there.”
“I don’t see anything. Maybe you’re seeing an illusion, Marcus,” Gregg says. “Missy, do you see anything?” he continues. Jody and Buddy eagerly strain their eyes also, to catch a glimpse of what Marcus is suggesting to be their campsite in the distance.
