Mr. Keating Is To Blame For Neil's Suicide

The Dead Poets Society is a Drama/Teen film made in 1989 about a group of young students who attend a private school because they are above average when it comes to book smarts. Mr. Keating a new English teacher is introduced to the school that is known for traditions and high standards. He uses unorthodox methods to reach out to his students, who face enormous pressures from their parents and the school. With Keating's help, students Neil Perry, Todd Anderson and others learn to break out of their shells, pursue their dreams and seize the day. At the end of the movie there was a tragic scene where Neil commits suicide because of the lack of belief from his father. Following his death Mr. Keating was blamed for the incident and is required to not teach at the school no more. The students were asked by the principle if Keating was responsible for the death. Some of them gave in and told the truth some of them did otherwise. If i was asked to defend Mr. Keating and help him maintain his teaching position at the academy i absolutely would. Mr.
At the end of the movie John Keating is accused of making Neil come up against his father and outing his own dreams ("Carpe diem!") which ultimately leads to him committing suicide. My understanding is that Neils father was too controlling and not wanting Neil to do what he wanted. Neil loved acting and was really good at it. His father on the other hand did not like the acting and wanted Neil to become a doctor. Being a doctor is a really good career but that is not what Neil wanted to do. I think Neil has had enough of his father's controlling punishment and just wanted to take the easy way out. Mr Keating.
