Mr Rowntree is vulnerable due to his impoverished health; a fundamental factor of Mr Rowntree’s health problems is insufficient mobility. Mr Rowntree’s insufficient mobility can cause him to be vulnerable on the grounds that this inability to sufficiently mobilise himself can result in social isolated, and an inability to acquire groceries, which will inevitably impact on his nutrition, causing his health to further deteriorate and become more susceptible to physical health problems. Thus, resulting on Mr Rowntree becoming considerably dependant on society and strangers for help. Mr Rowntree is also exposed to abuse and exploitation because of his dependency on others, Undeniably the implication is a legitimate and significant problem (Welsh assembly 2000). A research of exploitation and desertion in older adults established individuals aged 65 years or older within the UK had suffered mistreatment implicating care workers and family members (The Guardian 2013). Social vulnerability is regarded as becoming detached from society due to failing health or decreased manoeuvrability (Parliament and health Service Ombudsman 2011). Mr Rowntree had found himself in this predicament due to inhabiting his home alone, having lost his wife and family living many miles away. Due to his age and poor mobility, Mr Rowntree explained there was very few friends in close proximity to hand and due to his poor health, the only social interaction he experienced was by telephone.
