Mr. Smith In Poe's Murder

Another reason why Mr. Smith is innocent, is due to his actions during the dismembering of Edgar Poe’s body. On paragraph twelve of his statement, it states, “The night waned, and I worked hastily, but in silence.” For a sane person, they would have a response to the dismembering such as vomit or another physical response. But, for an insane person they could’ve worked in silence and not have had an initial response to the cutting of the body. From those actions, we could theorize that Mr. Smith would be insane, deranged, or have mental problems. Since he didn’t have an initial response to the chopped body, we could assume that he would be insane and not guilty for the murder of Edgar Poe, the old man.
