I don’t know why she would want to spend time with paupers like Mum and I but she always comes. I can hear her rattling wagonette coming from a kilometer away. Sometimes I think it will just collapse, the way it leans and shakes.
I know I am just a child, so sometimes it’s hard for me to understand things, but Mrs Polkinghorne never looks down at me, she says that I have a bright future ahead of me. I think it’s just because I am really good at maths. I don’t have many friends because I hardly ever go to school. I can’t get there most of the time because we don’t have a car. But sometimes Mrs Polkinghorne takes me. I really like school though. It’s the only thing I am good at.
When I am older and I have finished school I want to go to university and be like Mrs Polkinghorne. I want to help people like she does. I want to be able to change people’s lives, just like she has changed my life and my Mums. She is my
