Mrs. Ramirez Ethical Issues
During the interview, she stated honesty and integrity as her main core values. She discussed that a leader in any professional field should be transparent with their workers or colleagues because it is what allows issues to be discussed. Mrs. Ramirez particularly believes without integrity there cannot be work ethics. She has experienced problems were professionals hire student workers that do not have these qualities. For example, there was a time one of her student workers lied about working extra hours in the center. When she confirmed with a counselor what the student claimed, she was informed that it was all a lie. She was upset that the student worker lied to her. Eventually, the student worker was fired and now she has a more intensive hiring process. Mrs. Ramirez believes student works should be honest because they are the face of the …show more content…
Ramirez was in shock of the behavior the student displayed, but she felt that the student needed mercy. She did not want to expel the student from their campus because she knew he was recently diagnosed with post-traumatic stress. So, by him being laid off, it probably caused more stress. She feels that the student reacted in such a violent manner, because possibly there was an issue he wanted to speak specifically with her. The ethical dilemma was that the dean and her colleagues thought it would be beneficial if she moved to a different office. However, she is married to a Marine and she understands the challenges this population faces. Regardless, she had to brainstorm what would be beneficial for her safety. Unfortunately, a week later her car tires were slashed and the sheriffs were not able to identify the individual at fault. She felt threatened and afraid that another event would occur, which led her to be moved to the Career Transfer Center. As of today, she does not feel comfortable working with the veteran population though she knows this is the population that probably needs more help from
