This quote goes with one of the motifs, “Race and Racism”, here Mrs. Turner explains that the amount of black people exceeds those of white. This quote signifies how some racists in this novel, see society. Mrs. Turner is eligibly a racist against the African American race, which goes along with the novel because back in this time, people would either gossip or hate.

So this chapter takes a turn for the worst, Mrs. Turner brings her brother into town and Tea Cake feeling threatened, beats Janie (why!!!!) to show dominance and that he controls her. But he pampers he afterwards, and Janie harbors no ill will towards him. All the men in town envy his power. Saturdays,
