Ms Sprigs: An Indentured Servant
A young woman that was banished from her home by her very own father because of her bad behavior. Sprigs was forced to work as a help in a Maryland. In her letters she begs her father to take pity on her. She also describes in her letters her living conditions and how terrible it is. How she has to sleep on the floor with one blanket and giving a limited amount of food to eat. She then tells her father that the Africans are being taken care of better than she is. She asked her father to send her clothes in shoes and other stuff that she can survive the weather with. This letter is what is left on record for Ms. Sprigs her life as an indentured servant which was often cruel some did not even survive These strict living conditions along with
inadequate rations often lead to starvation, when added to the cold winters and wide-ranging diseases that spread throughout the colonies many didn’t stand a chance at living out the agreed upon term on slavery.
