The relationship of Benedick and Beatrice versus the relationship of Claudio and Hero can be characterized as incommensurable or poles apart, but both relationships did contribute to a satisfying conclusion.
Claudio and Hero started with a love not forced. Claudio confessed his love to Hero and she said she would marry him. Their love was pure until Claudio believed Hero was cheating on him. He publically shamed her in front of her whole family and they fought. Later on, Leonato forced Claudio to marry his “niece’’ who looked exactly like Hero. Irony being it actually was Hero. Benedick and Beatrice were sworn to never love. They had high standards and despised each other. Later finding love by being persuaded. Their friends convinced the two that one another other is in love with them. After Hero and Claudio announce their wedding, the Prince says ”I will in the interim / undertake one of Hercules’ labors, which is to bring / Signior Benedick and the Lady Beatrice into a / mountain of affection, th’ one with th’ other”(II.i.355-358). Due to the fact that they had extra time before the wedding, the Prince thought he could get them together so they do not get bored. This ended their hate towards each other and broke both their strongly followed rule of never marrying. All in all, these two relationships can be viewed as being the same thing but one of the cases is backwards. Both relationships went through the falling in love, fighting, being lied to in order to love, and finally the marriage stage. The order they occurred in is just backwards. In the end, both relationships contributed to a happy ending in marriage. Those stages are what makes a marriage strong so you know how to handle the situation to keep the love alive.
