Much Ado About Nothing Love

William Shakespeare is known for his complex works involving love, and deceit, perhaps none as significant as in his play, Much Ado About Nothing. There are several instances where the main characters do not look for love, but instead it seeks them out. Perhaps the perseverance of love and its relevance in the real world is what has made this play enduring for so many years. A primary first example of love in the play would be Claudio and Hero, although they do not necessarily seek out each other to marry. The whole marriage is in fact orchestrated by third parties, parents, and for the good of the royal families. Claudio and Hero do not really convene to plan their wedding, (a literal representation of people's’ love for one another.)
Many of these characters did not go out looking for love, even Benedick said, “I would not marry her though she were endowed with all that Adam had left him before he transgressed,” meaning even if a woman was considered perfect, he would never marry her, for he loved being a bachelor too much. Claudio even expanded on Benedick’s sentiments stating that he had no intent to turn husband, (until he wanted to marry Hero) then he could not even trust his own word. Many examples of love persevering in the face of adversity exist in our world, Madonna and Dennis Rodman, Jack Antonoff and Scarlet Johannsen, and even Heidi Klum and the singer, Seal. What is apparent in many of the odd relationships today is that the members of the couples come from different worlds such as in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Madonna and Dennis Rodman could theoretically represent Benedick and Beatrice in the way that Benedick is a war hero, fierce man, counteracted by a gentle, more down to earth partner that perfectly represent many of the real life examples of love’s

Clinton could be likened to Borachio in the fact that both were men of stature, high up in social class, and both involved themselves with women viewed as below their station. In the play, Borachio had a covert affair with gentlewoman Margaret, who was subservient to Hero. In the time of Shakespeare marriage was to save a family name or to create ties that would improve the lives of the parties involved. If word got around that a high status member of the governance was involved with a lady under his class, he could have lost much respect from his peers and subordinates, but his love was too great and he risked all of the pitfalls of subversive dalliance.
