Muhammad Ali's Early Life
Have you ever thought about being a professional boxer? Muhammad Ali was a boxer who accomplished many things throughout his life. He was a very strong and competitive person. Ali fought 61 fights, he won 56 and lost 5 fights. Muhammad Ali says, “I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion”. Muhammad Ali was an athlete who faced many challenges.
To begin, one challenge for Ali was his religion. Ali was apart of Islam a religion of peace. Islam doesn’t approve terrorism or the killing of people. He joined the Black Muslim group of islam in 1964. Muhammad Ali spent 15 years as a Black Muslim. His mother raised him as a baptist although he converted to Islam, he still
carried on his belief in God. Another challenge was his stand for refusing to fight in the Vietnam War. Ali’s draft status was revised and made him eligible to fight in the Vietnam War. “Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go ten thousand miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights?
