Multicultural Competency Paper
Multicultural is a very big controversy when it comes to psychology. There is much diversity that comes along with dealing with multicultural psychology. Psychologists are trained to deal with much different diversity. All individuals exist in social, political, historical, and economic contexts, and psychologists are increasingly called upon to understand the influence of these contexts on individuals ' behavior in society. (“Guidelines “, 2003) In many different generations, there has been much diversity in the workplace. The biggest diversity in the workplace is stereotypes. Many people just like to assume things about a person without getting to know them.
The biases, perceptions, attitudes and beliefs that one might hold about culturally different groups are many different things. One perception that a person could have is just by the way one looks, and what they are wearing because it is a part of their culture but one person might look at it and think that person is weird. The way that an attitude might come in is because say if a person had a bad experience with a person of a certain ethnicity, they might not want to deal with anyone of that ethnicity because of that experience that they had with that one person. A belief could be the way that someone is raised and if their beliefs because of the way that they were raised are to be either prejudice or even racist. Automatic biases and attitudes may also lead to miscommunication since normal behavior in one context may not necessarily be understood or valued in another or even understood in another culture. (“Guidelines “, 2003)
One’s attitude and perception might definitely influence the way that one interacts with people who are culturally different from them. A good example of this would
