Interprofessional teams are valuable because professional members bring in-depth and specialized knowledge and skills to the interaction process. In an age of rapidly expanding information, the roles of interprofessional team members complement one another. Through huddle or informal communication of ideas and opinions of different team members, plan of care for the patient is determined. A plan of care developed by interprofessional tam is considered a valuable health management tool.…
Ripley and Worthington (2014) state, “One of the most important things you can do for the couple entering your office is to tailor the treatment to their particular style, needs, and values” (Ripley, Worthington, 2014, p. 94). The writer agrees that personalizing therapy will support fulfilling sessions, as well as, effective treatment. The rational for this decision is based off of experience in a residential facility, which implements a program that all residents must follow. However, because each resident has individual triggers, psychiatric disabilities, needs, and coping skills, their programs are individualized to help them succeed. Ripley and Worthington (2014) provide supporting opinions, similar to the previous example, which approve of altering the typical course of therapy based on the demands of a couple.…

We live in a Prozac Nation, a time when clinical psychiatrists are quick to write prescriptions as a ‘quick fix’ for a patient’s problem rather than taking the time to get to the root of their distress.…
Coordinating care with other clinicians, monitoring status, and tailoring treatment to specific patient needs. Depending on the clinicians chosen treatment approach and the client’s will, sometimes clinicians needs to coordinate with other professional to obtain the best level of care for clients. One of the most meaningful health-related experiences I have had was the time I attended a multidisciplinary team meeting while shadowing an infectious disease pharmacist. In this meeting, various staff members attended such as nurses, specialists, and pharmacists to discuss the health of each patient. One patient at a time, they determined whether the patients were healthy enough to be discharged from the hospital. It made sense to me why this meeting was necessary as additional rooms are always needed for incoming patients. I observed how multiple factors were taken into account prior to discharging patients, and the difficulty that arose when discussing complex cases. Attending this meeting was meaningful to me in several aspects; it demonstrated…

Evidence-based practice (EBP) emerged in the field of medicine during the 1990s and has been extensively integrated into an increasing number of disciplines (Coggan, 2004). EBP relies, first and foremost, on research findings published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature including treatment process and treatment outcome research. EBP of psychological treatments involves the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in each stage of clinical decision-making and service delivery (Sackett, Rosenberg, Gray, Haynes & Richardson, 1996). This requires psychologists to thoughtfully evaluate and apply the best available research in the context of specific client characteristics, cultural backgrounds and treatment preferences to guide the implementation of assessment and intervention practices (Herson & Sturmey, 2012). Thus, EBP involves the integration of the best research evidence, clinical expertise and patient’s values and preferences (Sackett, 2000).…
Research has shown an estimated of 70% of patients seek help for their mental health needs while visiting their primary care physician (PCP). However PCPs are not equipped and/or trained to treat an individual with mental health issues to its full capacity. Nonetheless, several surveys report that people would rather seek help from their primary physician rather a psychiatrist or other mental health professional. So in a response to initiating better healthcare practices to treat the whole-person properly and to provide quality of care services to an extensive range of the population; healthcare practices throughout the US have started to implement behavioral healthcare into their healthcare delivery system. It has been reported that 3 out of 5 people diagnosed with a serious mental disorder typically die from related health issues. Overall people with a serious mental disorder are dying at a faster rate of at least 25 years earlier than individuals without a serious mental illness. People that are diagnosed with a mental disorder that only seeks treatment from a mental health professional as well as, people with a mental disorder only seeking treatment from their primary care physician contributes to the high rate of mortality among the population diagnosed with a mental disorder. An individual with a mental illness need to treat the whole-person; while there are several associated health issues that accompany some mental illnesses; if left untreated increases the risk of vital organs shutting down ultimately leading to death and the same goes for a person only seeking treatment for health issues but fail to get treatment for their mental illness. Failing to get treatment for a mental illness can contribute to physical health issues.…
In this model primary care provides mental health needs for mild conditions with support from mental health specialists (Cummings, (2015). Studies have shown that this type of intervention, consisting of six components, are effective for outcomes across mental health conditions (Woltmann, Grogan-Kaylor, Perron, Hebert, & Kilbourne, (2012) . In a study by Jones, Cochran, Leibowitz, Wells, & Kominski (2015), patients who were seen in a patient care medical home were more likely to receive mental health counseling with a mental health specialist than those seeing a “usual…
This report is created for the general public, researchers, decision-makers, and primary care specialists, to make them more aware of the severity of this problem due to the fact that it is one of the highest ranked types of needed research in the health care industry today. But more importantly to establish and outline the underlying main reasons behind why there isn’t an increase of funding, along with examining how an increase can benefit the 450 million people who suffer with a mental disorder worldwide (World Health Organization, 2003).…
