Texting and driving is as dangerous as drunk driving, yet that doesn’t stop us from doing it, even while we have our own children or friends in the back of the car. Zillions of messages are sent by cellphone users while they are at the steering wheel, and are at a higher rate endangerment of crashes. Drivers think nothing bad is going to happen to them, but they can go from a normal situation to crashing into another car or any other type of car accident, just because they prioritize their phone over their safety. On the other hand, it’s not just driving that puts us at a risk for the consequences of multitasking either. Pedestrians who use mobile devices while walking are less likely to look before stepping into a crosswalk. One in five pedestrians went to the emergency room after being hit by a car while using a smartphone at the time of the accident. I was walking to school in the morning, normally there is a crossing guard to help us cross the street, but the crossing guard did not show up. In front of me I saw a student running while texting on her phone, she noticed that it was her turn to walk, while crossing street she did not notice a driver taking a sharp turn and in a blink of an eye, she was in major pain and started to scream for help. It is important that people are informed of this fact for them to be aware of what could happen if they keep on multitasking. Its practice should be kept to a minimum to prevent wearing out the brain. If we multitasking all the time, all the mental or emotional clutter in our head might be causing distraction; therefore the stress level, will cause people to lose clarity and productivity.
