Music and Concert
For my concert review I went to see the Buford high school jazz performance i asked some of my friends to join and they agreed. Everyone was relaxed and were enjoying their evening except me, as I was worrying about writing this paper. If I were to use one word to describe their performance that word would be astonishing. At first, hearing that I was required to attend a concert I was completely turned off. I am very closed minded and automatically thought to myself it would be dreadful. That is not the case anymore.
This genre of music is amusing and very pleasing to the ears. The band members are some of the most talented musicians I’ve heard. This was my first time attending a jazz concert. Therefore, I didn’t know what kind of music to expect. This concert was a new experience for me. It was far different from any rock concert held in some big venue. The purpose of this concert was to give people a taste of jazz. This was a jazz concert, but some of the pieces they interpreted were modern. The music that was played was not the kind that makes you does off. I was somewhat excited about attending this concert; I was hoping I wouldn’t be disappointed or get board.
I’ve always loved the sound of a trumpet. My favorite musical group the Dave Matthews Band has a trumpet player, and this is how I started enjoying the sound. Therefore, I knew that this concert must be worth going to. This concert gave me a chance to look deeper into what Jazz music is all about. When I got there I really liked what I heard. I am going to look more into this type of music. This is the type of music that you just want to sit back and relax and listen to. It’s not to slow where you are at the point of falling asleep. Jazz music has got a certain element to it that no other type of music has. In all, this concert was a wonderful experience for me. I found a passion for a different brand of music. The first question I asked myself at the beginning of the concert was how much do I

The Concert (A Musical Party) is an oil on canvas, Baroque period painting completed by the Flemish painter Theodoor Rombouts circa 1620. The work portrays a group of five costumed musicians around a table covered with a Persian tapestry rug. Of the five performers, there are four men and one woman. The four men are playing various instruments, the woman appearing to be the vocalist. The play of deep shadows and bright highlights present in this painting make the overall use of chiaroscuro more pronounced, reflecting the strong influence of Caravaggio, a revolutionary Italian painter who Rombouts studied under. Caravaggio’s works, which combine the realistic rendering of the human state with a dramatic use of lighting, had a formative effect…

performance. I love that they use Benny Goodman’s composition to end the whole concert because it really brought the 1920’s big bang jazz’s feeling back to the audience. I think the repertoire for this performance was good because there were a mix of many different styles, such as contemporary pieces, swing, blues, free jazz, and etc. In my…

I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…

    How Heat Affects Lipase

How is the human body able to digest the food that you eat? How quickly your body digests your food? This is because the human body contains enzymes that are the biological substance, a.k.a proteins, that act as catalysts and help complex reactions occur. There are many different enzymes that each have different specific functions. The enzymes include: diastase, pepsin, lipase, catalyse and urease. Lipase is an enzyme found in the digestive tract that catalyses the break down of fats into individual fatty acids that can be absorbed into the bloodstream. This enzyme will be used in this EEI. The purpose of this EEI is to test the rate in which lipase reacts to different variables such as temperature and pH. Enzymes are found in foods, epically raw foods such as meat, but cooking foods destroys any enzyme activity, including lipases. If the temperature changes then the pH levels will change. The optimum temperature is 37°, that is the average temperature inside the human body; the optimum pH level is 8.0. (Corporation, 2013) The purpose of this EEI and experiment is to calculate the rate in which the pH level of milk changes after it has been heated and the heated lipase is added. Four different temperature will be tested to create the most accrete results possible. When lipase is heated, it becomes a fatty acid that destroys itself, so when the lipase is heated and then added to the heated milk, it rate in which the pH level changes should be high and fast. If the lipase and milk is heated above its optimum temperature (42°) then combined, the pH level will change much quicker and the change in pH levels will be much more clear.…

    Salsa Jazz Concert Report

It’s not really the type of concert I would have typically gone to for fun but I did enjoy myself. I think the fact that it was salsa made it more interesting since I am Hispanic. I caught myself bobbing my head to the rhythm, clapping my hands, and tapping my foot in some of the performances. One of my friends was in the concert so it was nice to see him play on the drums and how he had a solo. Also another guy from my jazz class was in the concert and he played very well and it was riveting to see the way he played his solo on the sax. I don’t know if I would ever go to another jazz concert for fun but who knows maybe I would if it was a salsa one. I am glad that I got to go and see this because I probably would not have experienced this if it wasn’t because I had to. It did open up my eyes more to the world of jazz and seeing how different it is to see them playing live than from a computer or just listening to the songs. To see it all happening was fascinating. I would tell anyone that they should go some time in their life to a jazz concert, specifically a salsa one. If I out of everyone enjoyed it than anyone…

The name of the concert that I attended was called “TCU Jazz Combos” and featured a variety of jazz compositions. This concert took place in the Pepsico Recital Hall on November 14, 2012 at 7:00 in the evening. The event was casual; however, I chose to wear khaki pants and a button down shirt because I was not certain as to what the dress code would be. The performers’ names and their respective instruments were Mike Korson- Saxophone, Garrett Wingfield- Saxophone, Luke Wingfield- Trumpet, Alex Neal- Guitar, Edo Frenkel- Piano, Will Gilstrap- Bass, Russell Wharton- Drums, and Tanner Webb- Trombone. During the concert they played various jazz compositions written by some of the very performers themselves. Several other pieces were more well known jazz compositions from internationally recognized artists. The concert itself was not very crowded, with pockets of individuals scattered throughout the audience. There was definitely interaction between the performers and the audience. I found this aspect of the jazz concert to be unique to other concerts. Jazz concerts are significantly less formal than classical orchestra concerts or even piano concerts in which applause is saved for the very end. In jazz concerts, after a solo it is considered appropriate to applaud, even during the middle of a piece. Having never attended a jazz concert before, I found this to be a wonderful learning experience.…

At this event, I saw how people including students, parents, faculty, and friends came together from a tired day to listen to smooth classical music. Music has such a mighty effect on people because it is a universal language. People all over the world listen to music, from pop to folk, and enjoy it. Classical music has a way of permeating the heart and relaxing a stressed mind. For example, at the event, one of the pieces the band performed was Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma. Their performance of this piece demonstrated the culture and lifestyle of French music during the 1900s. As the wind ensemble played this piece, the atmosphere in the room shifted because of the lively tone the piece had. People began clapping and moving along to the tempo of the song and joy entered the entire lobby. Music not only relaxes a person, but it alters their mood as well. I was so stunned to see how one piece of jazz music could create a change in so many people in an…

This was second time I listen to a Jazz concert in our school. Our players always keep a high quality of performance. Besides this relaxed type of performance I also used to go to Chopin’s symphony and other different kind of operas. Listen to a concert performed in the school and played by our schoolmates seems to be more joyful and comfortable. Our players might do not have a professional techniques or organized as the technical symphony orchestra. But their enjoyable and love of music are same which can bring our audience into their atmosphere and move our body along with their playing.…

On April 29th, 2011 I went to watch "FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ SERIES –PHIL RANELIN QUINTET" at the Performing Arts Center in Santa Monica. The Phil Ranelin Quintet show was my fourth jazz concert and was really looking forward to the event. I still do not fully understand jazz music but I can feel the music in my soul. I was started learning about jazz music from my Music 33 class. I believe that this concert I attend gives me a chance to look deeper into jazz music and American culture.…

The concert was somewhat as I expected to be. The concert was so formal and organized. . Even though I had some prejudgments about the concert at first, I enjoyed listening to these pieces live. I will try to attend future classical music concerts. There were some parts where the management team could have done better. The artist demonstrated dynamics, technique, harmony and togetherness beautifully. Before leaving the concert hall I was able to speak briefly with some of the musicians, they were very helpful in answering my questions about the…

The battles that took place in the civil war all had a significant impact on the union and the confederates. Many could justify which battles led up to the civil war, but I believe it to be these. The battle of Fort Sumter, first Battle of Bull Run, and the Battle of Gettysburg were the most important battles that took place in the civil war. The Battle of Fort Sumter was a confederate assault on union soldiers holding a Fort near Charleston Harbor.…

Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, that concert was a change in the atmosphere. I remember last month going to my sister’s Jazz concert. I remember walking in the theater a little bit late, but remember hearing the sound of the trumpets in the background. As soon as I walked in, I realized that it has totally different atmosphere from what my expectations were for the Jazz concerts. Unlike all the other concerts I attended, this concert intended for small audience, probably around a hundred people. Also, this jazz concert seemed very relaxed and comfortable. Most of people were dressed very casual, a lot of them were the kid’s parents and they were wearing jeans and shirts. But the musicians were dressed in suit and dress in all black. I remember that in a…

Unlike the first concert I went to a few months ago this one actually grabbed my attention. Every ensemble was very talented and something different to bring to the table. The many songs performed in the concert were all very well put together pieces. Though out of the eleven songs played I picked three of which I really enjoyed the most. All three songs were performed by the first ensemble directed by Mark Buselli. The first song was That Old Black Magic. The song contained a brief saxophone solo that was played very swiftly. I found the song particularly interesting because it was…

In between sets, the performers would speak about jazz history and how the purpose of jazz back in the day was to get everybody dancing and happy, and in being told that, it allowed me to listen closer to the music and try to feel what that was like. Looking around the room during the performance, I would see a number of people nodding their heads or tapping their feet along to the music. Even people who didn’t initially seem interested in the performance upon arriving looked genuinely interested in the performance because the music sounded so inviting. It made me curious to see what it would be like to watch a jazz band perform in a real venue where you can get up and actually dance. I would really consider attending another performance in the future just to feel that same intense atmosphere that was created that…
