1. Who sang at the Grammy’s in Spanish in the late 1990s? What was the reaction?
Ricky Martin sang at the 40th Grammy Awards… People were shocked but then were awestruck at his music and were hype.
2. When did Latin music burst back on the scene? What song brought it back to the mainstream? What effect did it have?
Latin came back in 1984. “Conga” by Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine. Latin music is the Latin rhythm mixed with English words.
3. How did the sounds of salsa change?
The sound of Salsa started being blended with pop and R&B so more people could understand it.
4. What was the influence of CBS’ Latin division on the explosion of Latin music in the US?
They supported and sponsored Latin music and help it grow across America.
5. Who were some of the artists who brought together Latin influenced music with mainstream pop music?
Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine, Jennifer Lopes and Ricky Martin are some of the artists who helped influence Pop and Latin music.
6. Why did the Latin music influence decrease?
People started becoming modernized and couldn’t really understand much of the music anymore.
7. What was Reggaeton?
It is a mixture of Jamaican “dem bow” and Latin and Puerto Rican beats.
8. What other types of music are being influenced by "Latin" music?
Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B and Rock and many more have been influenced by Latin Music through the years. And so has Latin music with certain aspects of older rock and jazz.
