For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for music. Even as a little girl, our home videos show me singing with my sister, tapping out rhythms, and playing on various toy instruments we had all over the house. My parents encouraged me to explore several instruments, but when I was five, a professional flutist who performed at our elementary school fueled my inspiration. Ever since then I have been committed to the music, making it an essential part of my life everyday.…
My father’s parents were born in a small village in the Peloponnese. They were kind and humble people that eventually made their way to Athens. My mother’s parents were born in Kafkaso, a town in Minor Asia, which at that time belonged to Greece. With the war of 1921, the Turks forced my mother’s parents to flee to Athens. They were wealthy and proud, as were many Pontian Greeks at that time. Both of my parents were born in Athens in the fifties. My mother left Athens in 1969, America bound and my father followed soon after.…
The first concert I choose to attend was the UMKC ensemble series. It featured the wind ensemble and the wind symphony.…
, I always loved music. I had taken piano lessons and attended dance lessons. Now I am involved in the marching band, concert band, pit orchestra, and jazz band. Music was always what made me truly happy. Music also seems to come to me very naturally. I play three instruments, clarinet, flute, and saxophone. I am hoping to start piano lessons again soon.…
From my early childhood, all the way until now and I am sure to the future and beyond I have been fascinated by music. I have loved to listening to, playing, singing, and writing music as well. I can vividly remember when I was very young in our family room we had a stereo and my family and I would dance and play along to music. I specifically remember The Beatles and The Eagles. I had a small plastic snare drum that I use to use until sadly I stepped on it. Both of my Uncles played music and were in a band themselves. My Uncle Ed was a drummer and my Uncle Ronnie was a guitarist and a singer. I remember going to concerts for their band a t a young age as well.…
Music has played a significant role throughout my whole life. All throughout middle school and high school I have been a performer, participating in many different musical organizations including orchestra and choir. These personal experiences have broadened my interests in music. In middle school I was in choice voices, which was a special singing group for people who excelled in singing. When I went to high school I stayed in the same program and even became senior section leader of my choir, conducting different songs at our concert and being in charge of different performances. During my childhood I was part of the choir at my church, and performed during the different holiday masses.…
I started first on the bass drum, with me being on of the smallest members, I looked pretty comical. Although, I didn’t care, I was only gracious to be a part of such an amazing and talented group of individuals. Choir and singing then became a big aspect of my life and educational career as well; meeting new friends and peers along the way was one of my most cherished memories. I first started singing in middle school, and then continued into my high school years as well. I can honestly say that by joining band and choir, it has connected me with life long friends and has given me many forever cherished memories. They have both pushed me in ways that I couldn’t have pushed myself, taught me many valuable life lessons, gave me the gifts of perseverance and concentration, and have shaped me into the able woman I am today. Over the years I’ve taught others to love music just as much as I do by working with middle and elementary school children. I have also taught at the preschool program located in my high school, desiring to teach them how to push past the obstacles they can not prevent and redirecting their feelings into positivity and valuable…
My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness.…
I was in band for 2 years and in those two years I learned how to play the trumpet and how to proficiently read sheet music. In 8th grade I decided that I would again take choir and I would find that my years of experience and bettering my ear for music would pay off. I took choir for another 5 years after that and it was there that I learned two things. I learned how to play the piano which I now realize has helped me learn memorization skills and coordination. However, I also learned leadership skills. Because I eventually became proficient in my singing skill and I also was so eager to learn and better myself, I became the leader of my choir in my junior year of high school. I was then awarded the National School Choral award which was the highest achievement in high school for choral programs. After this achievement passed, I decided to continue bettering myself though choir, piano class, and music appreciation, to make myself an ideal candidate to help others with their musical journey. I have always wanted to be a music teacher because I feel that music is what teaches people how to recognize true beauty and develop insight. Music is my passion and that passion will never become burnt out. Music has been frustrating but I have never given up, I have only tried to make myself better.…
I have always been drawn to music. As a child, I had a fond attachment to music. Music was always being played in my household, whether it was on the radio, the television, or through an instrument. Music has always given form to my feelings. As a child I remember I would turn on the radio, sit on my bed and just listen to random music stations. Although I never had dreams of becoming a singer, dancer or any sort of musician, I have always been fascinated by music. I have been captivated by rhythm and melody since the days my mother would sing me to sleep.…
My music performance career made a debut when I was very young. The church was my first audience when I began to fall in love with the stage. I always took pride in singing in Christmas and Easter programs, and I eventually went on to sing solos. Until middle school, church was my sole outlet for music performance. However, in middle school, I decided to join choir and band. My life suddenly became filled with concerts, honor bands, and other performances. I consider these the moments that I really began to learn what performance was all about. Music has helped me learn many important life lessons that make me the person I am today. Music performance has been one of the most impactful parts of my life because it has taught me confidence, artistry, and dedication.…
Since the day I remember I have always loved to sing. Everything that dealt with singing I enjoyed. In school I loved chorus and has been my favorite class I have taken. Learning new music and how to read and write it made me feel like it was possible to write my own song. In my middle school, there was a honors chorus class called the “Small Ensemble” The Small Ensemble was a small and privileged class, they got the opportunity to go participate in school plays, Christmas parades, Christmas caroling, and competitions such as, All-County and All-State. To be considered into this honors class, students had to audition for a seat in the class. When I heard there were going to be auditions I was completely excited and so determined to audition.…
Since I was a wee little kid I have always loved ‘90’s music, I particularly liked the boybands . It doesn’t help that my mother was once, what many call today, a fan girl. My first CD player was gifted to me at the age of seven, and it never left my side. I had quite the CD collection too, which included: almost every Disney movie soundtrack (This was around the time I fell in love with High School Musical), Clay Aiken, N’SYNC and the Backstreet Boys. My father, other the other hand, hated ‘90’s music. He was more into rap music. If he was still a part of my life today I imagine that he would constantly be scolding the so-called rappers ‘Wiz Khalifa’ and ‘Kanye West’. He liked the good rappers like ‘Tupac’ and ‘Notorious B.I.G.’…
Music is an essential part of my life. It affects me in many ways, not just emotionally, but physically as well. I have been listening to music for almost my whole life, but the type of music I have listened to has changed throughout my life. I have been influenced by many people as to the type of music I have and currently listen to.…
I am intrigued by the music industry major at Drexel because I e always dream of a career in the music industry. I've heard nothing but great things about this program, which gives me reason to believe that it's the best place for me to develop the skills and prepare me for my future. In order to prepare myself for this major, I invested my money into recording software for my computer. Using this software I've been able to record my own music and practice mixing and mastering tracks. It actually all started out as a hobby, but I grew so passionate about it I knew it's what I wanted to do with my life. I began researching recording arts and other similar majors to find the best program for me. That's when I came across the music industry program…
