Music Memoir
Valdivia, Aldair

English IIII
Aug 29, 2013 Every word, every sentence, every phrase in a song may describe your own personal life. Well I’ve chosen three of my favorite songs that best describe my personal life of the flaws I have made and the things I’m going through and also what I do in my free time. Well these are the best song out of hundreds of songs that I have best describe my life completely. The first song talks about how I have made mistakes in my life with the people that were so close to me. It reminds me of my mistakes I did when I had my girlfriend. I did some stupid things and my action made her to break up with me. Well this song I called “The Reason “by the Hoobastank. It perfectly explains all of my flaws I have done in my past and will not commit in the future. The same story goes to the close friends I had and for my foolish act I lost them too. Well this not only explains my mistakes but the next one talks about me not giving up. “Riot” by Three Days Grace tells not to give up on myself even though I have already made regretful mistakes. Every day I listen to this song to mind me to keep my head up and not to look down at disappointment. I live everyday like normal because I tell myself that mistakes are meant to be made so I’m never giving up on myself thanks to this song. So far these two songs remind me of the bad thing and I’m not letting it bother me and so the next song motivates me like no other. I’ve been down on myself for so long that I found this perfect song to bring me up from my darkness and to pump me up to make myself stronger. When I have free time of my own I got to the gym and I put this song on repeat for two hours straight. This song keeps my mind of everything and it makes me focus on making myself stronger. I make sure no one puts my name in to shame because one day I will have the opportunity to prove the world that I’m ready for any obstacle that stands in my way. This song

I am really not a big fan of rock music but this song really had a huge impact on me that made me fall in love with it. The pace and tempo of the song is slow and steady and I like songs that are like that because I can really connect to them and it helps me understand them more better than a very fast and not steady song. This song should relate to a lot of people who go through the problems that faced in this song. It can help them better relate what they are going through in life. High and Dry is a really great song by Radiohead and it helps me relate to it in many ways that have been through in my…

One reason I chose this song was because I listen to a lot of hip hop music and well pretty much anything, but hip hop is up on my list. When talking about music that motivates me I would have to pick between Drake and Eminem, because they both can put such emotion in a few words to make it a paragraph of meaning. What they can do with their music amazes me. I like the way this song flows when he’s rapping and how the words go together. The flow and the words he says make sense. Compared to other rappers who don’t even make sense when they rap is not like Drake at all. He has a meaning to his music and this song is about him and all of his success in life so far.…

The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns that can alter a person’s life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough, you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, “Move Along” by The All-American Rejects and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” by Greenday sing about this message. The lyrics in their songs have many literary devices such as personification, repetition, symbolism and juxtaposition. The personification will help you visualize an image of what is going on. The repetition helps you understand the message of these songs because they are emphasizing an important section. The symbolism helps you understand the message because it provides you with an image and you can relate it to something. With all of these literary devices, the audience can relate to the main message and have a deeper understanding of the theme.…

At first my mom and dad tried to hide the divorce from us and lie about why one parent wasn't here when the other one was, and that really made an impact on me, but my brother doesn't remember much so it doesn't effect him like it does me. I was old enough to realize that something wasn't right only because I knew who they both really were on the inside and something was missing from them. This song represents a time in my life when my life was really hard and going downhill. I started failing tests and getting really low scores on our STAR tests. I believe that the hardest part for me was that they lied about everything because I will never forget that wether they know that or…

Milan Kundera once said “ Anyone whose goal is ‘something higher’ must expect someday to suffer vertigo. What is vertigo? Fear of falling? No, vertigo is something other than fear of falling. It is the voice of the emptiness below us which tempts and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.” This song reminds me to always pick yourself up again after you fall. Why do we fall? So we can pick ourselves up again. If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, you become something else entirely. When I would listen to the song, it would always remind me that there’s more to shoot for than just success. It reminds me that the difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s motivation. For an example, I think about goals and life as a bow and arrow. An arrow can only be shot by pulling the bow backwards. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it’s going to launch you into something great. “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”…

These challenges have proved to me that if my family and I come together as a united front we will be stronger as we lean on each other and move forward together. Additionally as much as we have been taught to be compassionate and nurture one another this songs’ vibe portrays to me that it is innate to take care of the people who surround us. It is through loved ones, education, and relationships that I have become the best version of myself. Middle school is yet another step in discovering who I am, but I do know I want to surround myself with others who offer me the love and support I…

    Soundtracks of My Life

As far back as I can remember, music has always had a big impact on me. I cannot imagine my life without music even for one day. If so, life must absolutely be dull and tasteless. One thing that I have found funny about my life is that whenever I am emotionally facing something, there is always a song that corresponds with my life at that moment. I sometimes wonder if the song writer could be someone close to me who knows what is going on with my life at that time and then he or she writes a song based upon my life story. Since I have been quite busy adjusting myself to new environment at University of Southern Indiana, I did not have time to properly listen to those songs until when I was assigned to write this paper for my English 101 class. Like other people, I have those tracks in my phone and I also give them a star, making them my favorite tracks on the playlist, so that I do not need to waste my time looking for them when needed. As I was listening to each song, I was taken back to certain moments of life. The songs range from those which represent happy times to sad moments and also when I bounced back hard and became a stronger person.…

    Lyrical Pain

When one thinks of emotional pain, it seems to mean things such as anger, hurt, resentment, confusion, and sadness. Music can play on these emotions through songs such as “Here By Me” by 3 Doors Down, “Colder Weather” by Zac Brown Band, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About it” by Darius Rucker, and “The Ghost of You” by My Chemical Romance. These four songs have a common theme in the lyrics, an ended relationship and questions leading to why the relationship ended. Between the memories and the questioning lyrics, the depressed melody enthralls the mind and causes a deep emotional agony.…
