In todays society adults want to protect innocent children from the so called filth, foul language, racist comments, and sexual references the artists might portray, but the idea of censorship is just ridiculous. Artists write songs to express how they feel.
Yes, there are artists like Tyler the Creator or Tyga whose songs have absolutely no meaning to them, and some teenagers might not agree with those type of songs being made, but there are many motivational and inspirational songs produced by artists who most people think may be the worst influence for a child, but in reality those songs show true emotion and definitely shouldn't be censored. Artists like Eminem, Jake Miller, and Tupac use music to express their feelings and emotions. In some instances, that is their only way to get away from the real world, music is a way for people to reach their emotions and taking that ability away isn’t fair. Songs like Guts over Fear by Eminem, Steven by Jake Miller, or Dear Mama by Tupac all have an inner message or a deeper meaning than what is shown, not many people notice that though. If someone actually took the time to get past all the foul language and maybe racist comments they might realize that the lyrics have an inspirational
background.
Censoring music limits the artists right to freedom of speech and in some instances it changes the view the artist had when they pictured the song. There are many things in the media that people may argue are inappropriate for children, but censorship really isn't helping anyone. To be honest it is actually shielding children from reality which will in the long run make them weak. If you don't want your children to hear the filth then prepare them for it, don't protect them from it. Music is a free expression of ideas, it shows the artists hopes and dreams, or pain and sorrow, so not only does censorship affect the child from reality censoring really hurts the artist’s right to freedom of speech.
