Meaning
The term Muslim means 'submission to God '.
A Muslim is any male or female person who believes in Allah, (means God in Arabic) is not a special god for Muslims, but Allah is The Creator of all creatures, and the Prophet Muhammad as His Messenger, who received The Word of Allah.
A Muslim is a person who follows the religion of Islam.
Islam Religion (Basic Believes)
Islam is the religion that preaches the Oneness of God, the Oneness of mankind and the Oneness of the Message.
Islam is a complete way of life that governs all facets of life: moral, spiritual, social, political, economical, intellectual, etc.
Islam is a way of life that is meant to bring peace to a society.
Muslims are required to pray five times a day.
Women in Islam
Women are not oppressed in Islam.
For Muslim women, modest clothing is encouraged, and wearing the Hijab (head covering) is a mark of devotion and commitment to Faith.
Maintaining eye contact when talking might make Muslim women and the elderly uncomfortable.
“Social distance” is especially important to maintain when interacting with Muslim women.
Generally, a doctor or paramedic of the same gender is preferred by most Muslims, especially Muslim women.
Marriage
Arranged marriages are allowed in Islam but are not required.
The responsibility for providing for the family is on the husband, while the responsibility to care for the house and raising the children is on the wife. These are the main priorities, but cooperation between the husband and the wife is required and highly recommended.
Muslim Culture
The Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, which is 11 days shorter than the Solar calendar.
Pork and its products and alcoholic drink are haram (forbidden) in Islam.
Removing shoes when entering a Muslim house is appreciated for cleanliness reasons.
In Africa, after greeting someone, it is customary to put their hand to your head.
