Leadership is a lifestyle, not a role one adopts. Leadership requires strength and power, but also the ability to empathize and recognize others' needs. As a high school student, I have had many opportunities to be a leader, whether it be through clubs, group projects, or extracurricular activities. During my Junior year, I assistant directed the play Steel Magnolias under the eye of my drama teacher as well as a college student director. This role allowed me to learn the ropes of directing as well as take care of the six girls cast in the show. I adapted the role of the "stage mom," making sure every hair was curled to perfection and every prop was in its place, as well as ensuring their lines were memorized and their staging was proper. I…
Every year the camp brought in a great group of girls. Having been chosen for officer positions and a starguider among those girls truly made it an honor. I value being highly regarded for my leadership in a place I love so much. Every year as I returned home from camp I tried to keep the same mind set as I had there, one of leadership. This is when I discovered that I did not need a title to be a leader. I could be a leader in everyday life by my…
I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…
I was a part of the Newnan High School Marching Band my tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade year. It was a great experience. The Newnan High School Band became like a second family, and the band room was my home away from home. As it got closer to my senior year, I started wondering who was going to get the title of clarinet section leader my last year of marching band. I felt like I would be the one for the job. When they finally informed us that leadership applications were available, I was excited to get my application. I wrote an essay and prepared for my interview. I knew I had the qualities they were expecting in a section leader. I was kind to others, hardworking, friendly, helpful, understanding, and approachable. I anxiously anticipated…
I lead for the feeling of every student on my campus becoming one, so perfectly matched in school spirit and school pride. I lead to feel the rush of my heart every time I see a sea of orange and hear the deafening cheer of the crowd. I lead because it isn't easy to get thousands in a school involved I lead for the challenge to fill the stands at every rally fill and to fill every seat at any blood drive. I am a leader in ASB to get my message across so know I left a legend when I turn to leave for college. I not only lead for myself, but for my fellow students as well, my family and my equals.…
I believe that my leadership skills are exceptional for a person my age. In classroom activities, I enjoy being in charge of projects and assignments. Many of my teachers throughout the years have told me that I have great leadership skills. In my soccer team, I was voted by my peers to be co-captain and have been proudly doing it for two years now.…
Being in the Collingswood HS Marching Band for five years has put me in the position of being an example to the younger members. I have learned that patience, and perseverance are valued qualities in a leader. When helping a new member of my section in the band this year, I had to be patient with her so that she would be able to be able to contribute positively to the performance. Also, when time management between school, band, and other responsibilities have weighed heavily on me, I have…
I believe that I show leadership qualities by being an excellent academic student. I have worked hard to achieve my goals, which are to make good grades, rank in the top 10% of my class, and graduate with honors. I continue to push myself to excel, I have been on the AB Honor Roll since elementary school; and I am currently #8 in my graduation class. I know that I am capable of being a leader, I am trustworthy, dependable, disciplined and responsible. I expect more of myself than my teachers and parents do. I am a true friend, I do not tell my friends what they want to hear, I tell them the truth. I am not a follower, I am a leader and I plan to be a leader on into my college years.…
Although I may not hold any official leadership positions, I believe that I possess the necessary characteristics needed in any good leader and enjoy utilizing them. The main place that I see myself as a leader is on the soccer field. On the JV soccer team for the last two years, I played nearly every available minute at center back, or middle defense, rarely coming off the field. As a player who can see nearly the entire field, a center back has many other jobs other than one on one defending. One of the center back's principle responsibilities is to make sure that all of the other nine outfield players are in the correct position.…
I believe that I have exceled in the field of leadership. Leadership is the position or function of a leader and a person who guides or directs a group. My advisory voted anonymously for an advisory leader in ninth grade, and I became my advisory representative by getting the most votes. As the advisory representative I attended meetings and helped organize and plan for advisory. Another example for leadership is in the summer I was the head counselor for Fun in the Sun Summer Camp. My responsibilities as the head counselor was to make sure all counselors were doing everything they were supposed to do, and to run counselor meetings and I had my own group of kids to watch after. The final example of leadership is babysitting my mom’s close friend Marina Dubin’s son. My duties’ for being his babysitter was to watch and take care of him while he was awake and asleep. I…
Over my high school years, I have held more than one tangible leadership role. However, nothing has taught me more than my tenure as one of the drum majors for my marching band.…
In addition to being a scholar, I can definitely be considered a leader in the presence of many. Last…
I have been taught that leaders are not born and that they are made. As a child, I learned what it took to lead, and how I should always apply myself and voice my questions and opinions. I strive to stay true to my beliefs and character, and this has led me to become a leader and example for both children and my classmates to follow. Although I am quiet and prefer to listening over talking, I set an example for my peers by being active in class discussions, getting involved in extracurriculars, being respectful to the staff and teachers, and being diligent and managing my time. Through doing these things and involving myself in the school, I have become a role model and example for my classmates to follow.…
My entire life I have been trained and taught how to become a better leader through scouting, religious activities, and my roles on sports teams. Scouting has had an enormous impact on my leadership skills being an Eagle Scout. As an Eagle Scout my leadership traits have been pushed and tested throughout my 12 years in scouting. I am a natural leader as that role comes out when working in group projects, collaborating to complete a task, or to teach a struggling group of individuals based on my current knowledge. More of my leadership qualities have been obtained through church related functions, guiding a group of young teens through biblical controversies. Sports have had a huge impact on my leadership attributes, playing on countless numbers of baseball teams I have…
In the past, I have demonstrated leadership as both the assistant manager of a frozen yogurt shop and as a leader in the University Honors Program as a member of the Honors Student Council. I have also exhibited leadership throughout my academic and sports career by acting as a role model for my peers and leading by example. As a leader, I know that I do not need to be the most vocal, and instead understand that I should set the standard for my peers to follow. My past leadership…
