World Music Paper My ancestors were from Ireland and Scotland, which makes me Scotch-Irish. The main music that they played and listened to was Celtic music. Celtic music is a broad grouping of musical genres that evolved out of the folk musical traditions of the Celtic people of Western Europe. It refers to both orally-transmitted traditional music and recorded music and the styles vary considerably to include everything from traditional music to wide ranges of music. The main instruments used in Celtic music are the fiddle, flute, accordion, drum, guitar, bagpipes, and the piano. Scotch-Irish music is a little upbeat, and cheerful. The happier songs of Celtic Music are used at parties, or at usual meetings. Irish, Scottish and Welsh music have long been a major part of American music, at least as far back as the 18th century. Beginning in the 1960s, performers like the Clancy Brothers became stars in the Irish music scene, which dates back to at least the colonial era, when many Irish immigrants arrived. The most significant impact of Celtic music on American styles is the evolution of country music, a style which blends Anglo-Celtic traditions with "sacred hymns and African American spirituals". Country music's roots come from "Americanized interpretations of English, Scottish and Scots-Irish traditional music, shaped by African American rhythms. Celtic and African elements "usually consisted of unaccompanied solo vocals sung in a high-pitched voice, and the lyrics set a simple melody.
Irish music is such that it has various styles and a kind of a lyrical, soothing sound to it. Traditional music is still very much firmly rooted in Ireland. Ireland's love for its music and dance is an act known as Riverdance, which popularized many aspects about Ireland. The Riverdance had such an appeal that it gave a new dimension to the Irish music and dance scene.
