With the description of the surrounding areas of the story and the references of the animals, one can see where someone may live or where that person was raised as a child. In each story, the character’s personality is reflected in how they express their selves about nature. Therefore, I will analyze the character’s, Cather, personality in the book My Antonia.
In the story, he continuously made reference to actions that animals would do. When a character in the book jumped up, he compared that person to a hare. All the reference he made of the animals, made it clear that he spent a lot of time outside of the house. He observed the wildlife and appreciated it. He had a pony named Dude. He would ride around on his pony and visit his neighbors often. This was his pass time since that in the time he lived in there was still no television or internet services. The snake would not harm Cather and Cather would not harm the snake. A badger was also in the garden. He would occasionally eat one of the chickens off the farm, however, they would do nothing to the badger because they enjoyed watching the badger and he was not scared of the people. They could not harm him because they enjoyed having his company while they gardened. This would be called a mutualism relationship because they both benefit. The badger and snake give something to the people and the people allow the animal to stay
