Essay on The Effect of Deforestation to Human Lives

Length: 6 Pages 1449 Words
Deforestation is increasing as a global concern. In recent years deforestation has risen to dangerous levels. This reason is mainly due to the fact that most people have no idea what deforestation is. This lack of education has caused many changes in the global economy. The concerns no longer center on deforestation but in the effects it will have in our environment in the future. This issue has sparked national attention. It has caused a chain of recent plans and policies to be introduced. Also it has brought us together as a nation to fight a common problem.

Deforestation is the clearing the land of forest or trees. Many people do not even know that this problem exists, although it may be occurring right in their own neighborhoods. The causes of deforestation are broad. It used to be thought that the lumber industry was much to blame, when in fact the industry is very low. Most of the land was used for various other reasons such as building and agricultural expansion. The land is used for growing crops and livestock grazing. In many cases the "Slash and Burn" method is used. This is where the farmers cut down and burn forests to get to the land that is feasible for farming. Most of the tropical soils are very poor in nutrients and can only support crops for a few years. When the soil has been exhausted it is either abandoned or turned over for livestock grazing.

The effects of deforestation on the environment are numerous. The reduction of forests upsets the entire ecological cycle. The forests are home to a number of plants and animals. When a forest is cut down, the whole cycle suffers. Most of all the forests act as a carbon "sink". That is they help to take in carbon, a green house gas, and offset its effect on the atmosphere. Also trees and plants on a forest can help to supply an alternative source of fossil fuels. Tree planting is also good for urban development. They

The main idea of the article is the affect of deforestation on the environment, wildlife and climate change. Deforestation results in soil deterioration. Forests store nutrients that are required for all plant life. Without trees to fill these roles, many forest’s lands can quickly become barren deserts. Deforestation also impacts the habitat for million species. Majority of Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes. Deforestation also drives climate change. Forest soils are moist, but without protection from sun-blocking tree cover they quickly dry out. Trees also help conserve the water cycle by returning water vapor back into the atmosphere. Trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. Cutting down forests will cause a decline in photosynthetic activity which results in the…

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, deforestation could account for up to one-third of all anthropogenic carbon emissions. Deforestation causes carbon to linger in the air, which traps solar radiation in Earth’s atmosphere, ultimately warming Earth’s air temperature.…

Deforestation causes erosion which in turn causes poor soil farmers can’t use. When farmers have land with poor soil, they cut down more trees to clear land. This causes desertification to happen which means that people cannot get water, food, or maintain a healthy lifestyle.…

Deforestation is an issue we need to fix. I would like to spend 100,000 dollars on deforestation because some of the trees that are being cut down are thousands of years old. “Any fool can destroy trees”(John Muir, “The American Forests,” Atlantic Monthly, August, 1897) Above all this, one fact remains the same, we need trees to live. If we destroy all the trees in the world, we are left with harsh living conditions for ourselves. Our forests should be preserved if we want a better nation.…

It is said, that forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet (WWF). Reducing the number of trees and the surface area of a forest is called deforestation. Deforestation is one of the biggest problems in today’s economic system. There may be a lot of positives behind the idea of cutting down trees; however they are all outnumbered by the negatives. To understand why deforestation is such a pressing and urgent issue, forests must first be given credit for what they bring to global ecosystems and the quality of life that all species maintain. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath by trapping carbon and other particles produced by pollution. Because of the deforestation of the rainforest, nearly half of the world 's species of plants, animals and microorganisms will be destroyed or severely threatened over the next quarter century…

Deforestation is contributing to threatened habitats. Humans are cutting down trees for reasons such as agricultural land. Trees are not only animal’s homes but they recycle our air and we are constantly chopping them down. Humans have cut down about 80% of the world’s natural forests which were once the home to many animals. The Amazon rainforest in South America is an example of deforestation as it has been partly deforested.…

When the earth 's natural resources are depleted, the environment and the wildlife that inhabits it suffer greatly. Because of the increase in production that the Industrial Revolution spurred on, easily attainable fuel sources like wood were used in large amounts that had very significant impacts on the environment but were over looked because of the desire to speed up production at any cost. The dependence on this natural resource during this industrial time period became one of the largest causes of deforestation which not only affects the trees and the forest, but it also affects the wildlife that have made the forest their home. Deforestation ultimately leads to a lack of trees, which help to rid the air and water of the harmful pollutants and carbon emissions that factories put out into the environment. Without trees there is no clean air, and without clean air there can be no life.…

First of all, many nations try to achieve the title of the most leading nation in economy or infrastructure. So in order to compete with other countries, most nations try to explore any available land in their country for development such as industries, tourist spots and many other purposes that are related to money. Whenever they see the potential of a certain piece of land, they tend to develop it despite some of these places might still be uninhabited or the home for many wildlife. Sometimes, they would also plod through jungles or level the mountains for road development which severely changes the landscape of nature. As a result, this selfish and careless act will cause the deforestation and global warming. For example, Indonesia has become quite careless with their handling of these problems. In Kalimantan, Indonesia, the forest is being severely deforested by their people for land development. And to make matters worse, they even choose the fastest and cos-saving method of deforestation which is by burning down the trees, the mass release of carbon dioxide from the mass burn down of trees lead to ozone thinning and greenhouse effect. Also,…
