My Bedroom

Do you ever wonder why certain places mean so much to certain people? When I think of my bedroom, I realize why some people are touchy about who goes in their room or who has been touching things in their home, it is because those things are important to them and may have some meaning. Places like my bedroom are places where we can relax and be comfortable and I think that is why it is important to people, because we can be ourselves and feel comfortable, we can also just sit down and rest our bones and relax. Another important reason is we can go there when we want privacy; we can just shut our door, maybe even lock it, and tell everyone in our household not to bother us. Also our rooms hold most of our personal belongings and those things are important to us and we do not want anyone else to touch them or in some cases go near them.
Bedrooms are a place where we can be comfortable and we can sit back and relax. When we are tired or not feeling the best we can go to our room, shut our door, and lie down and relax. Maybe even turn on some music or read a book or magazine. My bed is where I like to retreat to when I want to relax. I have a queen size bed with four pillows and my favorite comforter. It is a southwestern style comforter, with pictures of old adobe houses. It is the softest comforter in the house even though it is the oldest. My three cats are always sitting on my bed to keep me company. A lot of times I just lie down and close my eyes and daydream about places I'd like to see or think about things that make me happy. One thing we should not do is think about things we need to get done or anything that makes us feel stressed because then we'll never feel relaxed. I usually try to stay away from these sort of thoughts and it usually works out well.
The reason my bedroom is so important to me is because my room holds all of my personal belongings, which are very important to me. Also my room is a comfortable place to study or just to

The physical setting of the room that the main character occupies has a great affect on her well being throughout the story. When the main character first walks into the room she states, "It was a nursery first, and then the playroom and gymnasium, I should judge, for the windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things in the walls" (400), this shows us, the reader how the main character thought of her room in the sense that we can feel her emotions dropping in this sentence. Furthermore, we most certainly cannot leave out the wallpaper. This…

Texas the wildcard of the Deep South widely diverse economically, politically, and culturally, these three factors are what make up the great state of Texas, as we know it today. These factors also are what set Texas apart as a state compared to all the others on her boarders, and in the nation. The two party political systems in Texas has defined Texas since the late 1800’s from Democratic to Republican, each having a predominant rule, but Texas was changing faster than the parties could keep Texans happy. The Democratic Party had a strong hold on Texas and her political stance, simply because the Democratic Party was the party for the white male.…

The war on drugs whether wrong, right, or indifferent, has yielded a plethora of life changing outcomes for many United States citizens. Both the plaintiff and the defendant have their own side of the dispute, and yet somehow the plaintiff in the non-stop ‘cash grab’ that’s so conveniently nicknamed the “War on Drugs” gets the benefit of zero-tolerance, or minimum sentencing. In most cases the defendants simply are doomed from the beginning due to horrible living conditions and lack of jobs in the area. Coupled with police brutality and prejudice pointed toward the African-American community as a whole, it should come as no surprise that in 2011 there were more African-Americans in prison or “under the watch” of the justice system than were enslaved in the United States in 1850. This is not any more a war on drugs than the Iraqi Conflict was a war on the seizure of weapons of mass destruction.…

    In the Kitchen

The article “In the kitchen” written by the renowned author Henry Louis Gates is his own memoir of African-American hairstyle and it goes beyond the subject to bring forward the discussion of assimilation. Gates recalls his childhood memory of the kitchen in family’s Piedmont house. Even though the writer introduces the old-fashioned kitchen equipped with gas stove as the reminder of big mom’s cooking, the kitchen turns out to serve as the place where mom usually does her hair. This article also includes Henry’s own experience of straightening his hair whereby he questions the practicability and indispensability of the assimilation through hairstyle. Even though the article appears to celebrate the marvel of hair straightening process, somehow it renders author’s ambivalent stance about the issue.…

    Relaxing Place

But perhaps one the most important reason that I think the kitchen is a relaxing place, is because for me it represents a place of symbolic, spiritual cleansing. The kitchen is usually dirty, and every few days I have to clean it. When that happens, I view the event as a representation of my own inner, spiritual state. When the kitchen is out of order, my life is chaotic. When the kitchen is clean, my life has order. In cleaning the kitchen, I once again bring order into my life.…

Having my own room might be helpful for college. There is a 50% chance that I will go to college somewhere away and if I start sleeping in my own room, without anyone, it will be easier for me to adjust in college. Not only that, this might also teach me skills like cleaning up after myself and not depending on my sister to do half of the work, so that I won’t have to do all of it. My own room will also make me stronger, if something happens at night I should know how to call someone or what to do. This will also make me a lot more independent and I will start doing my own work like cleaning my closet, room, and doing laundry by myself.…
