My Big Fat Greek Wedding
In the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" there were many aspects of culture shown. Some were more obvious and visible while others were harder to find, you could call them invisible. A visible aspect of culture is one that can be seen showing up one someone's behavior, or daily routine. An invisible aspect can only be seen through someone's thoughts or concepts on life.

The main character Tula has had problems with being Greek her whole life. She was forced to go to Greek School, and taught that women were only good for marring, making babies and cooking food. This is a weakness in Greek Culture. She should have grown up with the thoughts of how she could do whatever she wants when she grows up and that she is capable of anything. All her life Tula wanted to be a pretty blonde eating her wonder bread sandwich at lunch and being very popular. She had that dream crushed by the first time she attended school. The though on how education of women will make them want to leave the family is wrong and is without a doubt a weakness. At one point in the movie the father Costa say "... why is she doing this to me?" referring to how Tula wants to be educated about computers and learn more of how everyone else in society works. Costa blames Tula for leaving the family and wanting to defy him, when she truly only wants a better job, and improved perspective on the world.

Greek Culture has the idea of being close to your family and being proud of who you are. These strengths take over all other weaknesses and are the most important. Your family should be the most important thing in your life because they will never leave you for friends and should never turn on you so that you end up with no one. The proud sensation that comes off of Greeks is almost unbearable, and can be sometimes considered arrogance. Although I believe that this is a very nice addition to the

The Greek's society is unique in the way it developed. It developed around the poleis. A city usually formed around a hill that also encompasses the surrounding rural area. While not unique in their progression of civilization what happened afterwards is. The Greeks never got along with each other. Therefore they never became a unified country. The Greeks would therefore each have their own identity based on what city state they were from. This could cause problems as far as unification is concerned, but most Greeks were happier being considered Athenians, Spartans, or Thebans than Greeks. This tradition was never carried on by other societies. So this style of civilization ends where it began, however Athens did make strides to control other city-states in Greece with its creation of the Delian League. Originally, it was created to push back the advance of Persia, in their bid to control Greece. After the Persians were thwarted Athens continued to control the Greek states in the league creating a pseudo-empire over these other states. The Greek states were never formally united until Alexander the Great brought all of Greece under his control. The Greeks left behind a tradition of resisting unification and being independent.…

Honor and glory are central to the Greek character. Since heroes are the essence of the society from which they come from, Greek heroes live their lives according to honor and glory, in all kinds of varied forms. Both traits trigger a magnificent war that takes the lives of numerous men, and shapes its development at every stage. The fall of Troy is “a thing… whose glory shall perish never (Homer, Iliad 2.324)”. The goal of the Greeks is fame that is never ending and lastly even after death, and they let nothing bar their way. The honor of the individual, family, and community guide every action…

Ancient Greece's social classes were basically like their democracy, men had more power. Although, thee social classes were very diverse. Women, children, immigrants, labours, and even slaves all had defined roles. But there was interaction and everyone was social with eachother. There was not much conterversary between each social class and who was relitivaly “higher” than another. Men attained more power but their were also different classes of ment. There were the ones who were basically rich and had the most money ,They could provide for themselves and others at any given time and they had the most efficient things. Their wealth came from pottery and even more importantly, the best land. there were the ones who were labeled as “poorer” but also owned some land. . This land wasn’t as protected as the land the top classes and their land wasn’t as close. Their land was always farther off somewhere else. The third and last class were the ones who were the “workers” they depended on trade and things relitive to that to make their money, provide, and/or survive. They also manufactured. The Greeks. You’ve seen them on TV. You see the posts on Twitter and Facebook. You constantly see the strange symbols that look like some sort of calculus, and the hand signs that look sort of like gang signs, and you are clueless on what they stand for. Most people still judge Greek life based on the stereotypes such as, sorority girls are “preppy and stupid” and men in fraternities are “rich jocks”. How can you be sure that Greek life is the life for you? Below are several things to give and thought to and consider before you decide to rush into a Greek life…

The society of Ancient Greece was very much centered around the gods, and a healthy fear of the consequences of not obeying their laws. Wedding Crashers was the return of the "R" rated adult comedy movie, it was the sixth biggest grosser in 2005, it is a sex comedy about two men who crash weddings to meet single woman and deceive them to get them into bed. I believe the movie "Wedding Crashers" is against feminism. The two male characters treat women like sex objects to gain their need for sexual satisfaction. The movie stereotypes women to make them seem like sex objects, disregarding their personality and intelligence. I think the target audiences are men who are in their late 20s and early 30s that are successful and enjoy humorous adult comedy.…

Mean Girls, a 2004 American teen comedy film directed by Mark Waters, with the screenplay written by Tina Fey, describes how female high school social cliques operate and the effect they can have on girls. The two main characters in this movie, Cady Heron and Regina George, may have a world of differences between them, but they are also very much alike. They are alike in the way they deal with situations, but unalike in the way they handle the consequences of those actions. Throughout the movie, it will become evident that Cady is the better person both morally and physically.…

People assume Greek life is all about the social events and drinking parties, but what they don’t realize is not only what a student has to do to maintain being apart of their house but also the person they have to be to be in order to get noticed by the house they want. Yes, it is true majority of people are good looking, come from wealthy families, well-rounded, and are easily able to get along with a lot of people. Besides that they have goals, are ambitious, on the Dean’s List, help make the community a better place, donate, etc. Greek Life is extremely beneficial not only for making life long friendships but also for networking and getting jobs right out of college. It is an organization full of connections and people willing to give you a chance at something you might not of had prior to being involved in the Greek community. For example, as an incoming freshmen I had many goals that I was unsure of how exactly I would fulfill them. It is as simple as asking upper class students in your house questions or advice. They somehow have exactly what you need to succeed or know someone who would be of tremendous help to get you…
