My Brother's Keeper By Jane Austen Quotes
Frederick Wentworth, a naval officer, meets a well-to-do girl, Anne Elliot, they get engaged. She is persuaded by Lady Russell that it would be better for him if she broke off the engagement. Lady Russell believes that such a match is unworthy being the daughter of Sir Walter Elliot; he gets upset and leaves to make a great career for himself in the Navy. The breakup produces in Anne a deep and long-lasting regret; she stays home and never marries.

Both ex- lovers do not meet again for eight years, which time has served to confirm Anne's belief that Frederick Wentworth was her ideal match, and to solidify his anger at the woman he loved but who had not, as he believed, loved him well enough to keep him. When her father is overcome by debt and rents his home, Anne goes to live with her sister, Mary Musgrove, who is ill. Anne cares for her sister and when she is well Mary's mother-in-law, Mrs. Musgrove, invites them to dine at her cottage with a few other guests. Anne meets Mrs. Musgrove's daughters at the party, Henrietta and Louisa, two lively girls who love parties and dancing.
