My Chinese Red Shoes
Looking back on my progress in writing this quarter. I have improve my writing skills. Writing an essay isn’t easy. From practicing in organizational, analysis, development, vivid examples, quoting, construction of better sentences, proofreading, writing process, and sharing. I have make improvements in EWRT 211. The in-class essay, “ My Chinese Red Shoes”,and my out of class essay“Overly Done”. These two essay show my improvement in organization, run on sentence, grammar, and support. I am ready to go to EWRT 1A. In my in class essay, “My Chinese Red Shoes”. I learnt how to construct an essay. The structure of the essay should have five- paragraph. I chose to apply negative opinion regarding my tradition red shoes. I support my essay, by mentioning more than three cited quotes From Nguyen’s “ Goodbye to My Twinkle Day”. I learn to put page number of the quote in brackets, and the full stop goes out side of the brackets. “But it tastes like memory”(172). I also learnt to use the “ loaded sentence” to introduce the essay. I try to make my responds clear to each of the quote. I try to have only one cited quoted per paragraph. …show more content…

I used my personal experience to connect to Malcolm’s “ My First Conk”. I learnt to use the 5W’s: who, what, where, when, why,and how. The 5W’s help my essay to add more detailing to my essay’s content. It adds concrete, specific details, support and interest to draw audience attention. And make my essay easier to read and understand. I chose to agree my personal experience with Malcolm’s quote. using the response set-up sheet, ”I agree that inner beauty is more important than outer beauty, because my experience of dying my hair confirms it.” I also use transitional words and phrases to introduce sentence and paragraphs,so they would tie back to my thesis

Do not use first person, “I,” in your essays. It is your paper; you are the author, so “I” is unnecessary. Consequently, avoid the phrase “in my opinion” because it is your paper. In addition, do not use the phrases “the book said,” “in the book,” and other stock phrases. For the purposes of this course, those phrases create “wimpy” scholarship because you are hiding behind the authors and not taking a stand.…

The following are three essays that I worked on during the semester. Most of it remains the same, while some of my ideas have developed. The only major changes made were redirecting the ideas in the Where is Waldo Now essay. In English 1102 I struggled with a lot, Professor Grant really challenged what I thought I knew about writing. Being that English is my second language, language barriers normally do not reflect in my speech or writing. I felt that this semester really showed me that I still had work to do. Passive voice, comma slices, forming arguments, and grammar are some of the many skills that I worked on during this semester. I attended the Writing Center as often as I could; I also asked questions during office hours. I worked on perfecting these skills in my other classes as well by reading out loud. By exploring these different options my essay grades improved 15 points. Hopefully my portfolio and future papers reflects the time and practice I’ve put into my writing.…

Starting with what others are saying “they say…” the most important thing of writing is to not only specify your thesis is, but what the larger picture that the thesis is implying to. After reading chapter one “They Say” Starting with What Others Are Saying, I understood the meaning of order in a passage and how to write a well-written passage. You must engage in the audience, the writer needs to explain what they are replying to. If you become unsuccessful in doing this, you lose the readers train of thought. The readers mind will soon wonder aimlessly on something else and not in your essay. Creating an essay with an argument, keeps the reader hooked and engaged in what you are saying. I learned that you should start off by stating what others say first, then engage with your idea last. Chapter two “Her Point Is” The Art of Summarizing, talks about writing a good…

As the quarter ends, I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived my fifth quarter but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Somehow, after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into my papers that I wrote in this quarter, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas. With help from an awesome teacher and my partner, I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…
