On a sunny Saturday morning when I was 5 years old, my sister and I were playing a game where we would push ourselves off of our bed like it was a slide. Our room was a pigsty; it looked as if a tornado had passed through. The mess from our closet met up with the end of our bed. I had just slid down the bed feet first into the mess when it happened.…

Imagine finding a dog in some alley. There's no way it can help itself and nothing anybody else could do to help it. It's justifiable to kill that poor thing that is otherwise going to die a slow and painful death. In the book Of Mice and Men by: John Steinbeck, the characters had quite a similar view. All of themes agrees as a group to finally put Candy’s dog out of it's misery. And the same thing goes for George with finally ending the life of his dear partner, Lennie. This happened when I first moved to Kansas. It was the middle of summer and there were no kids around close to my age so I was alone. First i named some roses that were in my front lawn and drew pictures with them of crappy looking rabbits because that was all I knew how to draw. my mom came home one day and I ran up to her and showed her the pictures, saying "And this one rosy drew, and this one Rosetta drew and this one I drew." when I was done my mom said clearly not understanding that they were not real "what house do your friends live in?" Like the dumb kid i was i responded "oh they don't have a house they live in our front yard." Extremely confused and probably creeped out my moms said "can i meet these friends?" It was then I told…

Technology is the building block of any society: it allows for new advancements to be made that improve daily life. Two such societies that made advancements in technology included the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire. As the expansion of the empire increased, the Romans built roads that linked these regions together. These roads were built in such a way that allowed for easier travel: roads were paved and allowed for water to run off. In addition, the empire also developed the transportation of water throughout the city through the construction of aqueducts, which were canals. Likewise, the Han Dynasty made advancements in the distribution of water: there were water ways, canals, and pools that were inspected by hydraulic engineers. Water was also used to power a blowing-engine. Because of the advancements that were made, the Han Dynasty is regarded by historians as the “Golden Age.” Similarly, the Romans created a large empire that stretched from Europe to the Middle East. Because of the vastness of both empires, water and technology were heavily relied upon, yet unlike the Han officials, the upper-class Romans had a negative attitude towards technology.…

I had just gotten home from school and I was carrying a small bag of presents my two closest friends gifted me. That day started off better than any of my other birthday’s by said friends decorating my locker as a surprise. I remember stepping into the living room and instantly facing a 180 mood swing. I was having that feeling you get when you’re excited to eat leftovers of your favorite food, but then quickly remember the food was never there. Meanwhile, my Mom was feeling a typical case of motherly nosiness and asked what was inside the bag.…

I felt a fire starting up inside of me. My mom thinks I am a baby and can't handle things on my own. I felt adrenaline hit me like a mad bull. " I am a big boy I can handle anything," I angrily shouted. I got my moms big mirror, and with all my strength I tried to carry it up to our apartment. One of my shoes were untied, and I was beginning to lose my balance, my mom's mirrored weight about 25 pounds and were about 4 feet wide and 4 feet long. For a small skinny guy like me, that was pretty big and heavy to carry all the way to the apartment. Eventually, I lost all my balance and fell the stairs. I was able to stop myself by holding on to the ramp, but as I held on to the ramp, I quickly noticed I had let go of my mom's mirror. That mirror flew down the stairs, and once it hit the ground, it immediately shattered like all how my behind was going be after she was done with giving me whoopings. My mother saw the whole event happen before her eyes. I didn't even want to look at her facial expression, I already knew what was coming for me, I held my butt tight and was praying that I would still have a tail left over when she was through with…

It was Memorial Day 2014, my whole family was home for the first time in a long time. My family and I were all up at our shop welding a plow for my mom's new lavender field. We had been working hard on it since 11:00 in the morning. Kaden, my older brother, was welding, and my dad was grinding metal. They worked until it was finished that evening. Later that night, Kaden went into the living room to ask my dad a question, he looked out out the window and screamed at the top of his lungs, "THE SHOP IS ON FIRE, CALL 911!!!"…

As a young girl, I experienced what at the time I thought was the end of the world. Yes, I was a little bit of a drama queen. At the age of eleven, and on my way to a ballet recital a woman who was careless pulled under an awning in a non-parking zone in front of The Girls Club. I was running to catch up with my group. I looked left and right and proceeded to walk under the awing to the parking lot across from the building. From the corner of my eye’s I saw a white car pull up in front of me very fast. The momentum of the car pulling up that close almost made me roller over the hood. I put both my hands on the car, and pushed my self away. Stepping back on my right foot, my left foot caught under the tire. I screamed in pain, and yelled at the women to move her car.…

That day was a very emotional day for me. I don’t ever want to relive that day. It all started when my family and I went to my grandmother’s house. We were going over there for dinner. I had been there for about an hour and my mom was getting suspicious of me going in and out of the house. My mom decided to search through my tattered and beat up olive green coat. I was hoping that she would not check my pocket because they had giant holes in them and everything I put in my pockets goes down into my coat. My mom put her hand into my left pocket and reached all the down into the coat and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. She then tore them into nothing then through them in the trash. I started to cry and I ran out of the house. I started walking with no idea of where I was going. Not too long after I started walking, I finally thought of a place to go. My goal was to walk to my grandfather’s house. I decided that I wanted to walk to my grandfather’s house because at that time I thought that he would be the only to understand the situation. I later found out that I was walking in the opposite direction of where he lived. I was walking for about two hours. I then decided the walk back to my grandmother’s house. When I got there, my parents were gone.…
