The Honors College at Florida International University provides a world ahead education. Through the Honors classes, I will be able to challenge myself with rigorous courses. This will help achieve my academic goal of graduating with a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) because the honors classes will prepare me for my other classes such as the ones in the university core curriculum. For example, the honors courses will make me a better writer, which would improve my critical thinking skill that would allow me to process information more efficiently. This will cause my other normal classes to become easier, which makes a 4.0 GPA attainable. Allowing and preparing me for a perfect…
From a lack of available parking spaces, to poorly managed dining services, the university has no shortage of problems that need to be solved. One problem in particular that deserves immediate attention is the issue of the Honors College. Being enrolled in the Jesup Scott Honors College is a prestigious honor and is a well-respected program; however, there are issues within the Honors College that make it difficult for the wide-eyed, ambitious freshmen to graduate as honors students. A major dilemma that works against students is the seemingly endless list of requirements to graduate with honors. Students are expected to complete 33 semester hours of honors courses, in addition to completing a capstone thesis and enroll in upper-level interdisciplinary seminars. These requirements may even be more strict for students in different majors/colleges. Another problem, is the lack of incentives for students to remain in the Honors College. While the thought of graduating with a medallion around one’s neck and more knowledge than most may seem enticing to some, most students need something extra to encourage them to stay in the program. Finally, an issue that impacts the majority of honors students is the lack of…
Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. I spent most of first two years discovering who I was as an individual, ultimately manifesting into inspiration for success. I grew out of “fitting in” and decided to turn my life and aspirations towards a greater direction; on this road of discovery, I separated myself from those who valued arrogance and indifference. “Nerd Squad” is what I am a part of today, which is why I am currently confident enough to apply for the National Honors Society Scholarship. I believe I have grown into a tenacious, sympathetic, and joyous young man that the entire school has seen develop, and I am honored…

An environment of unparalleled success, where students are challenged daily to excel academically and personally. Due to its prestige as one of the nation’s leading business schools, FIU lies at the top of my list along with its Honors College. As an accounting major, I’m attracted to FIU Honors because it is educating tomorrow’s socially responsible leaders. I seek to join the Honors College due to its challenging curriculum, passionate instructors, cohort setting, and multicultural study abroad programs.…

I deserve Phi Theta Kappa membership scholarship because I have what it takes to become a member. Also, knowing the importance of joining this noble organization will positively impact my life as a student. As a volunteer in the school activities and at Parkland hospital, It will give me the sense of responsibility and fulfillment in supporting the community through selfless service. In addition, getting a membership scholarship will make me to work harder academically by increasing my study hours. This would make me to maintain a GPA of not less than 3.5 to enable me keep my…
I am interested in joining the Schreyer Honors College because I am seeking opportunities to enhance my undergraduate experience at Penn State. Additionally, I feel that my membership in the Schreyer Honors College will help to prepare me for my future beyond graduation. The opportunity to take more honors courses is one of the things about the Schreyer Honors College that appeals to me. Honors courses require me to think more critically and divergently about things and help me to develop ideas and opinions on whatever the subject may be. Right now, my honors course options are somewhat limited, however being admitted into the Schreyer Honors College would expand my choices and help ignite my creative spark, as well as broaden my horizons…
Whether it be learning about the culture and diversity of my peers -- strictly adhering to the inclusion efforts of the Honors College, engaging in discussions surrounding issues and current events around the world, or learning how to create and market products that will succeed with the help of my professors, I know I will be deeply ingrained and involved with the Honors College community and strive to embody it’s important interdisciplinary values. I hope to become a part of this amazing community of students and contribute in these activities that make it so…
Dear Esteemed Members of the Admissions Committee:I am submitting a letter of petition for readmission for the Fall 2011 term. I was dismissed from the university in 2005 for poor academic performance. Upon my entrance into the university I have always been very studious which has led me to excel academically throughout the years. When I began my studies at --- I was ignorant of so many things. I didnt really pick up on college regulations and penalties comfortably until my sophomore year. It was then when I learned that I unfortunately didnt drop a class I thought I had dropped. I learned my lesson and became very familiar with the college catalog at that point. During my enrollment at ----, I truly tried my best but it was not good enough. I was devastated to see how I was performing when I knew I was capable of doing better. I graduated 3rd in my class with a 4.2 on a 4 scale. I had never performed so poorly, EVER! As depressing as this was for me I never gave up. I kept striving for better results but in the end I had to face reality. When I was dismissed from the university I blamed myself for my failures. I was too proud to admit that there were underlying causes that led to such a poor performance on my behalf. When there are problems in my life I usually find ways to deal with them without making them known. Ive re-evaluated the situation and have come to the conclusion that I was in denial of the issues my medical condition was causing me. I am a type 1 diabetic which was not under its best control during my enrollment. I never wanted to admit that it was causing me problems but I realize that it needs to be known and I should not be ashamed of it. My health caused me to be in an uncontrollable state of drowsiness constantly. On some occasions it required hospitalization. There were times I woke up on my floor confused and out of touch with reality. The hospital became my second home. It seemed as if I wasnt at school or the dormitory I was in the…
I sincerely hope that you choose me for your program. I know that I don’t need to brag about my academic achievements; you are more than aware of those. I can assure you that I am not lacking in enthusiasm and perseverance. Being accepted into The Honors College would be a privilege and an honor. Thank you so much for your time. I hope to hear from you…
I strongly believe that I have the qualifications necessary to participate in the Honors College for my diligent work in all of my prior years of schooling. There has not been an instant in my educational career where I have not put in full effort towards my ongoing goal to gain the most amount of knowledge and to apply it to every possible aspect of my life. I have always been in honors courses and I have worked my way up to AP courses at every opportunity that I have been exposed to. I know that I possess the work ethic necessary to fully take advantage of the Honors College and I enjoy taking part in labs, teamwork activities, and after school clubs that better me as a student and a person. I know that I have the skills to be able to regulate my schedule through the various work experiences where I have had to understand the workload myself.…
The National Honors Society is more than just a honor roll, but an organization that recognizes the efforts made by hard working high school students. I would like to join National Honors Society because it would challenge my development in both my community and my school. The National Honors Society, consisting of over one million students, would make me a part of a large community that could create many opportunities for me in the future. A highly respected organization such as the National Honors Society is very significant to me. The scholarships and programs offered by this organization helps increase my ability to get the education that I desire that I might not have been able to receive due to the rapidly rising costs of college. Every…
The Honors Program grabbed my attention because it’s for academically outstanding students and I am that student. Throughout my years of high school, I have taken Advanced Placement and Honors classes and have done very well in them. Being average is not okay for me, I want to do my best and reach my fullest potential in everything I do. I like being challenged mentally and that is exactly what the Honors Program will do for me. In the Honors Program I will be able to engage in social and cultural seminars that I know I will thoroughly enjoy. I have been a part of Diversity Club where different cultures come together to share ideas, exchange food, and get to know more about each others’ culture, so I have an idea of what seminars are like. I am a very outgoing person and I love to meet and interact with new people so through these seminars and projects I will be able to do that. I would also like to get a broader perspective on the world and throughout the many different projects, I will gain that. I read about the Honors Program and what will be done throughout the four years and I thought to myself that this is where I belong, I will fit right in. I want to accomplish many things that this program will allow me to and greatness is what I would like to aim for. The Honors Program at John Carroll University brings together one of the most gifted, diverse, and active groups of people not only on campus, but in the country and I would like to be a part of that, something…
I have had lots of opportunities to work as a member of a team especially as a student of Honors Program.…
Throughout my life I have embraced challenges, whether it be academic or athletic, because I know that challenges will only make me better. While in high school, I have maintained an A average while also playing sports year round. I have taken many honors and AP classes while in high school, because of the challenge the classes present. I believe by enrolling in the honors program I will be able to challenge myself once again to become a better individual. Also, I believe by enrolling in the honors program I will be able to gain a completive edge over others involved in the physical therapy doctorate program and finding a job in the future. I hope that this program will take my education to the next level and give me the tools to succeed later…
