My Contributions To America's Success
Bottom of the ninth inning three balls, two strikes, bases are loaded, you’re down by 1 run, and a base hit would surely tie or maybe even win the game. You’re palms are sweaty, knees are weak and trembling. You feel the stares of the whole crowd looking at you either urging for you to fail or to succeed. The pitcher stares into your eyes trying to intimidate you, but you won’t go down so easy. You grip the bat tighter and begin to ease your mind so only the thought of hitting the ball is what you're concentrated on. The pitcher begins his wind up and you begin your load. The ball whistles towards you and you swing away. At first you don’t feel much, and are disappointed, but then you notice the ball flying off your bat. You're astounded by how fast and far the ball keeps on traveling. …show more content…
Soon everyone begins to cheer for you. The crowd stands applauding you, your teammates rush to hug you, and the awards are awaiting you at home plate. That is why I love to play, America's past time sport, baseball. Now being the team captain of my high school varsity baseball team, I have learned many lessons and inhabited many qualities, to dedicate and contribute all of my efforts to the program. It wasn't easy to earn this spot as the leader of the team. I experienced many obstacles and difficulties, only learning from them, and take my knowledge to help others. For example, there was this one hardship, seven years back where I hung up my cleats and glove, and refused to never touch a baseball again. Two years later, following that moment, I experienced a life-changing moment, that made me want to appreciate sports

I only had school every Monday and Tuesday because my mom was so busy and needed to work. When she came home from work she was so tired she would fall asleep. I would worry about not learning stuff but my mom would always tell me that the only thing i needed to learn was street smarts, which is all I need for living in Chicago. The only thing that kept me human was baseball when my dad left, it was there for me when I was sad, I would walk four miles every day just so I could go to batting practice. My mom is wonderful and takes me to every baseball game even though we don’t have much money, we always save up so I can play in the best division possible. I had people come up to me and tell me I could be the next big thing in baseball, but I do it for my mom, she helps me with everything from batting to pitching and she is the best coach you could ask for. My mom gives me strength to not quit and she makes me believe I can do anything. Today is the day, tryouts are always tough but I was gonna try my best and that is all I could do. The first drill was batting we had to hit into the left, right and middle over the fence that was 300 feet away. The first up batting was Jeremy he didn't get it over on any of them, the next guy John didn't get any either. One by one none of them got it over. I heard them call my name, “Zach Lingard, you are up next after Ron Harper”. Ron is the best guy I have ever seen at baseball at my age, and he only got it over one part of the fence, the left side of the fence. The coach called my name, it was my turn. I was terrified, not one of them got it over except for Ron and he only got one over the fence, here goes nothing, the first one on the left side the coach throws me a fast slider down low and I crush it right over the fence, my…

    Laurel Baseball Narrative

Laurel high school has been the most glamorous of places to play baseball. The grass was scarce, dominated from large patches of dirt scattered across the outfield. Our batting cage left untouched for months at a time, creating a chest high jungle of weeds that consumed you as you entered. There were no perks of playing for the baseball program. The athletic director ignored us, the students didn’t support us, and the School wouldn’t adequately fund us. All we had were ourselves and an insatiable drive to succeed. I entered my freshman year out of shape, and with little baseball talent at all. I arrived at tryouts as an underdog, but I didn’t let that deter me. After three days of intense tryouts, I was named as a member of the junior varsity team. Unfortunately, The season didn’t go…

I loved baseball, but was not proficient in any position. I couldn’t hit, catch, or throw no matter how much I practiced. I realized this when I sat on the sidelines and watched my team play game after game. It was frustrating to know that I was not skilled enough to play, and because of that I gave up sports for good. At that moment, I felt like I did not fit in with my family. We had nothing in common because sports…

As a child, I grew up carrying a baseball glove and a pearly white baseball wherever I went, hoping for the chance of finding a partner to play catch with. The game of baseball was never just a game for me; it was a lifestyle that I had fallen in love with. With that being said, the fundamentals of baseball had no immediate effect on me as a kid. However, as I have matured along with my love for baseball, I believe that the game my life has been centered around for nearly twelve years has shaped me into the person I am today.…

Hi , I’m Lilli Burton . I am in sixth grade, and play baseball with the boys. A barrier i have faced is trying to play baseball because I am a girl. Whenever I try - out , they say “ She would be great at softball.” I face the barrier in Summer and Fall when it is time for baseball. A lot of coaches are sceptical about putting me on their team, but I don’t let that stop me from trying and trying again.Until someone accepts me for who i am. To overcome this barrier , I used integrity by sticking up for my beliefs and not always caring about what people think of me . I also used determination by never giving up and try my best to get better and better everyday. My barriers are similar to Jackie Robinson’s because we both wanted to do something…

I remember as a child beginning my pursuit of baseball glory. I remember running to the ball diamond full of fear that my friends would possibly be enjoying the game without me. I was full of ambition to be the best player on the team and as I grew I coveted the potential of a career in baseball; willing to do whatever was necessary to get ahead. Thankfully the Lord intervened and made it an impossible pursuit.…

It is the bottom of the ninth and I was last at bat. The ball came zooming towards me at a high rate of speed. The vibration of metal meeting leather rang out in my hands. No hesitation was made. I dropped the bat and ran as fast as I could to first base. My coach was telling me to keep going because the ball was fumbled. I rounded third base and my coach motioned for me to take it home with a slide. Down I went. Dust was flying. The crowd was standing and cheering loudly as the referee motions and yells, “Safe!” All I heard was screaming as dust still loomed the air around me. I could manage to see my team going wild, jumping, and screaming. Everyone seemed to be celebrating except me.…

Even though I am considered a skilled and impressive player, the game I love is all about failure. Players that fail seventy percent of the time are considered to be the best in the world. So this is where I developed the skill of mental toughness that I apply in life and baseball. In the summer of 2016, my high school baseball team made it to the state playoffs where the top teams played. College coaches were at the games along with hundreds of other fans. In our semi-final game, we were winning three-to-two…

Before I was first playing baseball I wasn’t very good and didn’t understand it, I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I played t-ball and parent pitch and it was very fun, I could never really hit, but I could field pretty well, and I was always better than my peers. My parents loved baseball and were always very encouraging of how I played baseball, and how bad I was. Once I turned an unassisted triple play, Which means that I got 3 outs all by myself, In the same play to end the inning. Until kid pitch i didn't know the game of baseball. I would constantly get hit by pitches cause I was a left handed batter, and pitchers at that age couldn’t throw me any strikes and would constantly walk me. Any time I got a pitch to hit I would hit pretty far and get a double or a triple.…

For a majority of my childhood, the sport of baseball was the one activity I loved above anything else. Nothing could compare to the exhilarating freedom and satisfaction of bolting full speed around the bases, determined to steal, beating the "Throwdown" by a fraction of a second. The massive dust cloud kicked up by my cleats and the thunderous boom of the umpire shouting, "Safe!" made me feel empowered.…

I think about the responsibility to America a lot. And I think it is my job to help make this country better and great again. I also think it is my job to help protect this country to fight all the enemies who try to invade us by boat, plane, or any other way possible. There are a lot of people who perform their duties successfully and there are others who don’t do so good on performing their duties. Like myself as of others, I have to also pay for things I don’t like paying for but I do just so I can survive in my life and my career. If I dot pay for it, then I most likely wouldn’t have an education nor a job because jobs now days require education. And without that education you wouldn’t be able to do anything. The most unliked item I don’t like paying is taxes, but they are required to be paid or you lose your land, house, livestock if you have any, equipment if you have any, and possibly your own family. And losing your family would not be so fun because then you won’t have…

“Where were you on 9/11?” Every American twenty and older could answer that question. Having been less than two years old at the time, I don’t remember that day very clearly. I, along with my peers, had to learn about the heinous attacks from parents, teachers, and news articles. I didn’t know until I was about ten years old that among the stories of death and despair were tales of American bravery unlike any before.…
