Pakistan is a located in the southwest region of Asia measuring a little less than twice the size of California and is comprised of 803,940 sq. km. Pakistan is sandwiched mainly between India to the east and Afghanistan to the west with China sharing a small section of the north boarder and Iran sharing the southwest boarder. Pakistan also has 814 km of coastline from the Arabian Sea located along the southern boarder between Iran and India. The evolution of Pakistan began as a result of the reorganization in 1947 of British India into two different regions, East and West Pakistan. The third Pakistan war in 1971 caused East Pakistan to bow out and become a separate nation named Bangladesh.
Current Issues
Pakistan is a country that has several problems and current issues to resolve related to a wide range of subjects. These problems range from, but not limited to, political unrest, increasing crime, economic and terrorism. The country recently survived a political coup in October 1999. The government and people of Pakistan have endured the existence of terrorism for several years. The Pakistani government recently made a deal with the Taliban terrorist group requesting the Taliban terminate training camps for Pakistani jihadists in Afghanistan.
Economy
The external debt Pakistan currently endures is estimated (2001) to be $31.5 billion dollars.It is estimated that 50% of the national budget is set aside for debt servicing and only an estimated 1.2 million people paid taxes. The economy of Pakistan has spiraled out of control to the point that one third of the population lives below the poverty level.
Major export products are:
* Agriculture: wheat, cotton, rice, milk and sugar cane.
* Mining: petroleum and natural gas.
* Manufacturing: cotton textiles, clothing, food products, fertilizer.
Climate and Land
The climate in Pakistan varies from different seasons, elevations and regions of the country. The climate is hot and dry by the coast and the temperature drops in the further northeast regions. The winter season is generally cold and dry. The hottest time of the year generally begins in April and the temperature can easily reach 120 degrees by the end of June. The months of July through September are the wettest months of the year and are known as the Monsoon. The monsoon provides an average rainfall of 15" in the river basin areas and upwards of 60" in the northern regions. The land is comprised of several different elevations. The Himalaya Mountains are partially located in northern Pakistan ranging from the east to west. The Karakoram and Hindukush mountains are also partially located in Pakistan. There are 33 major mountain peaks in Pakistan that have peaks higher than 24,000 feet. Several of the peaks are in excess of 26,000 feet high and one named K-2 Mt. Godwin Austin is 28,250 feet tall. The mountain passes that are carved into these extremely tall mountains have been labeled as the highest trade route in the world.
People
The people of Pakistan are very unique through their heritage and beliefs. It is estimated that 2/3 of the population belongs to the ethnic group named, Punjabi. The official language of Pakistan is Urdu and is only spoken by an estimated ½ of the population. English used to have official status in Pakistan and is still used in the business world, government and places of higher education. The religion of choice in Pakistan is Muslim. It is estimated that 95% of the Pakistan population are Muslims. The life expectancy estimate in 2002 for males in Pakistan is 60.96 years and 62.73 for females.
Military
The military in Pakistan consist of an Army, Navy, Air Force, Civil Armed Forces and National Guard. The minimum age to be available for military service is 15 years old and the minimum age to be enlisted into the military is 17 years old while the maximum age is 49 years old. Pakistan spends 4.6% of its GDP towards military support and a total military expense of $2,545.5 million. Interestingly enough, Pakistan has a total of only 87 paved runways and 38 unpaved runways.

Around 1790, there were 700,000 slaves in the United States. And by 1860, the number of slaves moved up to 4 million (lecture). The reason why the numbers had changed so drastically was because of the cotton boom. The cotton growing was concentrated on plantations rather than the small farms. Around 75% of slaves lived in groups of around 10 or more slaves, which made changes in the African American slave communities and culture (lecture). With the slave communities developing, they were very unstable. Around 1 million slaves migrated from the upper to lower south, which split the communities and families apart. Since the slave communities were growing, Southern African American communities were different from other slave groups such as Cuba where they constantly imported slaves from Africa. With being a slave, it resulted in a lot of health challenges but the planters tried to keep them healthy enough to work. The death rate for the slave children were rather high because the women worked hard and were not nourished enough. Their masters provided them with food and supplemented the food by growing and hunting (lecture). The slave children did not work the fields at the start of their lives. They were to observe how to survive as slaves. They learned what the penalties were for disobedience and observed how white men violated black women. They saw how slaves were sold away for punishment and also for profit. The older children were to take care of the younger ones and there was no schools for the slave kids. Adult slaves served as servants, artisans, skilled workers, or most were field workers. Most of the skilled workers were men rather than women. Around 75% worked in the field directly affected by the cotton plantation labor system (lecture). With the cotton, it demanded a year rounds worth of labor. It is widely believed that men are natural born leaders, as that is the way God made them, but modern society has shown us that women can be just as successful in leading, if not more so. Today women serve as positive leaders in politics, business, law and even in some churches as of lately. So why then, do many churches refuse women the right to serve as leaders? Why did God include passages of the Bible that restrict women’s leadership? According to "The Rise Of Women As Church Leaders" (2006), "Many Christian religions keep women out of top leadership posts – especially the pulpit. Their reasons rely mainly on selective readings of certain biblical passages regarding women.” (para. 2) Women should listen and learn quietly and submissively (Timothy 2:11). I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. (Timothy 2:12-14). If they have any questions to ask, let them ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings (Corinthians 13:35). The women should keep quiet in the churches, for they are not authorized to speak, but should take a secondary and subordinate place, just as the Law also says (Corinthians 14:34). These are each very clear examples of the restrictions of leading women in Christianity. While many churches continue to deny women certain human rights, it is very clear that without women, the Christian religion would be a vastly different community.…
