My Culture From The Movie Talladega Nights

Culture is the way that people is different societies behave about scenarios. KC Chhipwadia said “ Culture is defining how people behave in certain settings across different groups”(2016). Each culture lives by different norms and truisms. One truism, which governs my life is from the movie Talladega Nights which states, “ If you ain't first you're last”(2006). This truism teaches me that if you don't do things to your best potential than you won't come out to be the most successful. I value America, family, and responsibility. These values have been shaped by my family, my life experiences, and my culture. Freedom, family and responsibility have a great impact on shaping an individual’s culture.
Freedom is important because it allows people to be individuals and to do things on their own. A challenge that
helped shape this value for me was school. School shaped this value because you have to do what the teacher says and if you try to do something different than what was told you can get in trouble for it, one example of this is you have to ask to go to the bathroom and to get a drink. I understand you want to know where we are at but just have a little sheet on the door and on the way out have them sign it, I like this idea because it gives us a little more freedom and lets us feel a little more like adults. Another way to put this is from Voltaire, and he said “ Man is free at the moment he wishes to be”(2001). Not everything that has shaped this value is bad, for instance when I was little I did not like to listen to people direct my own life so I discovered my freedom and i've valued it ever since. In an interview with Bill Hecht ,my Grandpa, he said he values freedom because he gets to do thing that he wouldn't be able to do if he didn't have freedom and he said “ never take freedom for granted because we have to stay aware so we can protect our freedom so people don't try to take it from us”(2016).
Family is important in shaping culture because they help direct individuals, and teaches the difference in wrong and right.
What shaped this value for me was my great grandpa, he shaped this value because he was in world war 1 and I found that really interesting so I decided to value my family more to find more interesting things that my family was or is a part of or interesting facts about our culture, for instance I found out from my dad that I am part viking and I was really intrigued by this and I learned there are a lot of interesting things that you can learn from family. One really good way this is explained is by Michael J. Fox and he said “ Family is not important, it’s everything “(2001). In an interview with Ted Neller ,my dad, he said that he values family because his grandpa died and he still have some questions that he wanted to know, and he told me “ always take the time to ask those older than you questions so when they pass the questions won't be unanswered”(2016). From this value I have learned a lot about the way things used to be and I take the time to ask these questions and I find interesting facts, and this make me glad that I asked
them.
Responsibility keeps people from leaving things everywhere and makes people take care of themselves and those around them. I value this because I use to not be responsible at all leaving my stuff everywhere and not doing things I said I would, but now that I am more responsible my parents let me do more things on my own and there is a little more freedom to things that I like to do one example being going to friend's houses. When I was little and not responsible my parents didn't want me walking around town and walking to stores but now that I am older and more responsible I and able to do more things like walk around and walk to stores and being more responsible just gives me more freedom in general. I can't explain it better than George Bernard Shaw and he said “We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future”(2001). In an interview with Cindy Neller, my mom, said she has this value too because she had to take responsibility in order to do the things she wanted to do. She told me “ you need to take responsibility so you can be more reliable and be able to do more things without adult supervision”(2016). I've found these values and now I am able to do more things on my own and I have more liability and trust now that I am more responsible.
Family, freedom, and responsibility are important to culture. These values are important to culture because they ensure you have a free life and you aren't known as “the guy who isn't responsible”. These values ensure that you leave a good impact on the community, and can enjoy the freedom in your culture. Individuals who value family, freedom and responsibility will be blessed with an outstanding life.
