My Culture Related To America

Growing up in Portland, Oregon, I remember knowing very few Hispanics. I come from a Spanish speaking culture: to be more specific my ethnicity comes from the country Guatemala. My parents have encouraged me to interact with my culture by taking me to events that are related to my country. I have been there multiple times and have seen where my roots were laid. My culture has taught me many things in life; it has taught me to love and cherish those around me. As Latinos, we tend to stick together. We consider ourselves family, even if we are not related by blood. Although my ethnic background comes from Guatemala, my roots come from America. I was born here in the United States, and have been living here for 18 years. I have interacted many Americans through school and normal day routine, such as going to the store. Furthermore, I attend a library where 90% of the books are in English and go to school where you learn about American History. I learned to celebrate the traditional holidays like Fourth of July and Thanksgiving. Learning these things have made me a finer person.
The blending of my two cultures has made me a kind, respectful, and responsible person.
I acknowledge that I am different, although in a good way. My teachers and friends have helped me realize my uniqueness. I have always been positive with my peers. I was taught to never give up and to surpass my limits. My culture has taught me to be patient and respectful to those around me. I will show my fellow classmates in college that patience can help with anything in the real world. I will help to bring all of my college colleagues together, no matter their ethnic background or culture. By sharing our feelings and emotions, we can build a collective group that can allow us to form a team of leaders so that we can help our peers in every
situation. As a future cadre of Act Six, I hope to grow into a more knowledgeable young man. I plan to participate in a variety of college activities with the primary goal to build a group of leaders of different ethnicity. That way, we give hope and trust to our society. I want to grow by learning as much as I can and by completing many challenges and overcoming obstacles that come my way. I hope to become a respectful man, a generous person to all, and a righteous person who knows what is right and wrong. As a leader of Act Six, I want to influence my peers to not show discrimination, to approve of all cultures and ethnic groups, and to respect all who I associate with. It is important that all ethnic groups feel respected and trusted, so that we work towards forming a community as one. Overall, I hope to become a person who people can confide in. I hope to become a more courageous person.
