There is lexicon between us as well since we have many private jokes and because we have been doing this for the past year. For example, we may laugh about a guest asking which salad dressing he should pass to me when there is only one of two bottles that have salad dressing left in it. Another lexicon is the blessings or words of thought before, during or after the meal. The four of us communicate every day whether its about our jobs, school, philosophy, Shabbat and more. We let each other know if we have anyone we know of that would like to come for a meal on the weekend and if there is any food that we would like to eat during the meals. After Shabbat we discuss if there could be any improvements in how we conduct our meals and if there is someone we don’t know well to invite or someone that we haven’t had for a meal in forever. One may think that not having any guests for a meal is a problem since there may be someone who needs a meal, however sometimes the Goodman households need a break of hosting meals since there is a lot of preparation, effort and time involved. However, if we can’t host someone we will make sure they have another place to eat, whether we have our neighbors, family or friends host them at their houses instead. Another issue is that some people are embarrassed to ask us to have them for a meal even though we are more than happy to have guests over. In order to avoid this, we let people in our town know that if someone needs a place for Shabbat to send them our way. Because there are so many people in our community, we usually have guests every week enabling us to achieve our weekly goal, however, the only way the discourse community would have a real issue is if one of us moved
